My husband and I are starting to travel for business. It is usually an overnight trip which involves a long car ride or flight mid-day, staying overnight in a hotel and getting up early the next morning for a full day of a working a career job fair, then leaving the same day and driving/flying home. I take my peppermint capsules, and my tummy fiber and eat as safely as possible considering we are eating out at restaurants. I have IBS-D. Morning is my worst time. I seem to not be able to tolerate the travel/"change in water" and I end up in the bathroom all morning and take immodium to shut myself down so I can function. I wake pretty early to allow myself time to assess how my bowels are going to react. The family trip to an all inclusive this summer was a nightmare as well. Immodium ended up being the drug of choice. My family spend two nights at the dinner table without me as I was in the bathroom most of the time. I have been following the IBS diet for over a year and eat extremely safe all the time especially on vacation. Any ideas on what else I can do???

Eating away from home and traveling with IBS is in the book-The First Year: IBS. Stores have purified water dispensers or bottled water;I add "concentrace" trace minerals back into water, 1 drop/cup worth btw. Eating in a rented R.V. is an idea. I use dycyclomine (Bentyl)for ibs-d.
