A simple example of an enzyme deficiency is lactose malabsorption which is cause by the lack of lactase enzyme in the small intestine. While lactose can exacerbate IBS it is not the cause. Pancreatic diseases can reduce such digestive enzymes as such as lipase, protease, and amylase.
