so is there no link between IBS and lack of/faulty/inadequate etc digestive enzymes? what medical conditions are known to produce an enzyme deficiency?

now: stable through EFI+FODMAP dieting (no lactose/no fructose/some fructans and some polyols)

before: IBS-D(pseudo-diarrhoea), bloating, often unbearable pain esp from too much fat: Apr 2007- Dec 2010

[I've tried VSL#3 -> I could tolerate v good amounts of IF (even with less SF), it worked great (but overall I find it too expensive)]

There is no 'causal' link between digestive enzymes and IBS.

A simple example of an enzyme deficiency is lactose malabsorption which is cause by the lack of lactase enzyme in the small intestine. While lactose can exacerbate IBS it is not the cause. Pancreatic diseases can reduce such digestive enzymes as such as lipase, protease, and amylase. There are a number of medical conditions that produce digestive enzyme deficiencies.
