Has anyone read her previous book or this new one. I just got it about an hour ago. I printed off the FODMAP from the inter-net.

Dr. Susan Shepherd's book Low FODMAP Diet (5th edition). She is one of the original researchers who along with Dr. Peter Gibson developed the FODMAP diet. If you look at the second link in my signature you can read one of their papers.
The reason I suggest her book is that she and Gibson are continuously updating the information on FODMAPs. For example recently their research showed the tofu is safe unlike other soy based products. Now that they have developed the theory and clinical trials have shown it to be effective they seem to concentrating on pratical issules like determining the level of various FODMAPs in common foods. This information is not easily available with doing extensive laboratory analysis such the paper referenced below.

I got the first version on paperback a couple of years ago, glanced through it and tossed it aside. About a month ago, I decided to give this approach a serious try, so I downloaded the second edition which has been updated with the recent Australian research. I've been following it for about a month and have not had a major attack since, so that's progress!
I did my wheat challenge last weekend and while it did not produce any GI symptoms, I did notice that I felt hypoglycemic and sluggish. So it's good to know I can have the occasional sandwich or homemade muffin without becoming painfully ill, but I can't overdo it either.

Glad you had some relief. I'm still trying to read it and get ready to try it.

I am so intrigued by wheat, no research I know of associates it with low mood or depression but I know that on top of GI problems (incredible amounts of bloating) from fructans (wheat and also bananas ) I tend to feel thoroughly depressed 1 or 2 days after eating wheat. God knows why, may well be hypochondria, but I have detected a trend now, so even more incentive for me to wholly abandon bread and pasta, delicious they may be, not worth the mental and physical discomfort.
-------------------- now: stable through EFI+FODMAP dieting (no lactose/no fructose/some fructans and some polyols)
before: IBS-D(pseudo-diarrhoea), bloating, often unbearable pain esp from too much fat: Apr 2007- Dec 2010

[I've tried VSL#3 -> I could tolerate v good amounts of IF (even with less SF), it worked great (but overall I find it too expensive)]

Susie1985...I was/am a pasta lover and I have had success with Quinoa pasta. It is a pretty good substitute. It's in the same aisle as the other pasta in my store.

I live in Britain so not a staple in our big supermarkets, unfortunately. I may look in some specialist shops though, many thanks for the tip!
