Do you agree with this?
Dr. Oz seems to imply that dealing with stress is the only way you can really hope to stop IBS, that diet will help with symptom management and comfort, but to actually overcome it where you have no symptoms (or minimal) and don't have to worry about what you eat so often, stress must be addressed.

Each person has to learn what approach may work best for them - obviously, some people are helped with one method, of meds, diet, etc. while others need another approach. But the brain-gut component - some of which stress is included - is a big factor, especially when no other approach has worked previously.
Dr Oz has endosed a book that includes the IBS Audio Program as one means to address the brain-gut connection of IBS.

Disappointing

It was a disappointing presentation that appeared to be directed mostly to the 60-70% of individuals with mild IBS where minor dietary changes and stress alleviation measures usually work well. He certainly didn't give viewers an insight into the recent developments in managing IBS. All in all a very superficial presentation.

I love Dr. Oz and watch his show when I can. I felt he did not have enough time, in an hour show, to do IBS justice. It was mostly a skim-over or surface presentation. Also, docs that don't really specialize in IBS, never seem to cover how debilitating it can be, for some folks.
As for the stress issue, I think it can be a daily trigger, along with other triggers. But, I feel you must go much deeper and possibly farther back in your life, to get to the bottom of IBS. I had to go back to when I was a child. We all put our trauma or family dysfunction, somewhere. I also feel that it is a certain type of personality that develops IBS...strictly my opinion.
With hypnosis, I was able to totally heal, so I guess I was one of the lucky ones.

I agree it was disappointing. I stopped watching his shows because he tries to talk about so many different topics per episode. I never get much out of it. I'd rather he give more indepth information rather than try to discuss 10 different things per episode.

The book Dr. Oz endorsed - among others also endorsing it - is the first one listed below; the author also recommends enteric peppermint capsules just as Heather does. The book discusses many other conditions besides IBS.
Except for our Heather's books, Michael was NOT consulted regarding inclusion in these books!
I am neutral regarding recommending them or not - Just listing them for your information! The fact that the IBS Audio Program or Michael's work is mentioned in so many books should be encouraging to those considering the program!
