That is interesting, I am wondering if maybe I'm not sleeping enough, as the article mentions melatonin works in the gut for 8 hours during sleep; I usually only get about 6-7 hrs.

I got it as a supplement to help me sleep. I didn't even know it had an effect on IBS. Thanks for the head's up!

After reading, I thought it might be worth a try. I understand there are different varieties and it's best to choose the kind you swallow (so it gets into the stomach as opposed to the sublingual, which you just put under your tongue)????

I got the sublingual and am kind of annoyed by it actually. You have to hold it down there and yet constantly move it around. I'd much prefer just taking one like a pill.

When I took melatonin, it made my IBS worse.
Anybody else?

What symptoms did you experience taking melatonin? I've taken it 2 nights now and it hasn't helped the sleep and I've had some stomach pains and not sure if it is from the melatonin or not??

What strength are you taking? I take a 10 mg sublingual tablet nightly. I also take a prescription sleeping med (zopiclone), but since my tolerance to it has increased over time, I find that the melatonin gives me the extra boost I need. I've never noticed any IBS effects with it.

I've been taking now for a week and it has made a major difference helping me sleep. I only take .5mg regular, not sublingual. My dr. said to start with that and increase if I need more. It doesn't seem to affect the IBS...

I have seen no effect on my IBS. I have the 1mg sublingual and I take them occasionally. Unfortunately, overall they don't seem to do much to help me sleep, either. I was thinking about taking two, but the bottle mentiones a dire warning about taking more then 2 in a 24 hour period and I don't even want to get close to that.
