I've seen quite a few posts on the board that sugar-free gum causes D in many people. I love sugar-free gum but have recently been on this quest to overcome chronic C and am wondering if anyone else has experienced this type of gum (or artificial sweeteners) to have a constipating effect.

I'm not sure about C, but if you have bloating, as you indicate in your signature, then you shouldn't be chewing gum, period, since it makes you swallow air. And sugar-free gum, if it contains a sweetener like sorbitol, will create even more gas.

Well, guess I can't lie to myself anymore about the effects of sugar substitutes...maybe I will try peppermint altoids instead. Thanks!
