Certainly if the whole roadmap changes when you're having an "attack" then I suppose the Cliff Bars can be bad. I can say I've had them for 2 1/2 years along with my IBS and they have worked just fine for me through all that (I moved to them originally because they were the only protein bar I could find without dairy - specifically whey). The hemp protein is a more recent addition, but I have been using it sparingly (the protein to other stuff ratio is pretty bad for a protein supplement - a whey shake is like 40 grams of protein and next to no fat and carbs, while the hemp has just as much healthy fat and fiber as it does protein, so not exceptionally well suited for muscle growth) for about a month, so that's a heck of a delay in effect.

As for IF, I dunno, I've never had trouble with it in general but I stay away from things that are egregious IF. I don't eat lettuce or anything like that, but even when I tried it the negative effect was uncomfortable bloating, not any change to motility.

However, prior to this attack I have eaten Cliff Bars and other foods with inulin and IF and have been fine. Since the attack I have removed them from my diet so they can't currently be responsible for prolonging it. As I mentioned before, I am eating saltine crackers, and white rice porridge with acacia blended in at this time. Though I have considered adding something because I'm dying for some flavor (and I've stopped working out because I'm not eating enough protein to sustain my muscles), I have not as of yet added anything else. I still take my probiotics and desipramine, but they haven't seemed to have any positive effect since the attack.

So I still don't know what's causing it now and what I can do to stop/slow/control/whatever it. I was in a good place. I had no anxiety and my diet was stable and non-harmful (for me) and this just happened out of the blue. That's why I thought it might be food poisoning at first, because while my diet may not be peaches for everyone on this board, it was for me, and I didn't change anything to cause this.

It's too bad this board doesn't have PM's, as it's kind of forcing everyone else to read our conversation, though I appreciate your contribution as well, Renee21.

Oh and Syl, I don't think I am a FODMAP like you because I have taken fiber pills with inulin before when traveling (easier to fly with them than a "white powder", right?) and they didn't cause any problems.

Yes, this came at a bad time, with the holiday weekend (I'm in the US), but I will be seeing my doctor as soon as he's available. Although for the record this board has been more helpful for me in the past years than my doctor. He had me take antibiotics and thought my problems were a bacterial overgrowth, but they weren't, and I kinda lost the faith in doctors. I mean, they don't even know what IBS IS.

Yes i would have to agree i would suggest steering clear of them as they look like they may not have the right ingredients if your looking to go gluten free and not overload with fibre
