I am IBS-C with occasional IBS-D. I have noticed that sometimes when I eat a food that my stomach does not always react the day I eat it but the next day. Say I drink I diet soda. The rest of the day I am OK but the next day my stomach starts the cramping, etc. Does anyone else have this? Still trying to get my recurrence under control. Had to go back to the lexapro for the stress/anxiety. That is my main trigger with food as a close secondary. They seem to play off one another as if I am stressed the food reacts and if I eat a food that gives me a symptom I get an anxiety attack. Been eating bananas, rice cakes, cooked white rice, my homemade potato soup from on here and plain pasta. Been doing it a week and feeling some better but when I try to incorporate chicken it doesn't work. Maybe I am still too sensitive to it or maybe I should just try to have one plain chicken strip instead of three. It's a little frustrating. I just started dating a new guy and I finally had to let him know about my IBS. The day we were to meet for the first time I got sick and had to turn around and come back home. That day I had D and a small anxiety attack. He was sweet and came to my house and we just just relaxed on the couch. I told him I got nervous meeting him and was sick at my stomach. The week following I was still feeling bad and he was worried. I finally confessed to what was actually the issue. I only vaguely went over it. He came back the next Saturday and I was really feeling bad that day (the day I tried too much chicken) and we watched a movie. He told me everything was fine and if I was still feeling bad this week we would just relax on the sofa and he would rub my back. I thought that was very sweet. If I find a guy who just met me and know about IBS and is willing to stick around, then I may have found me a keeper. The unfortunate thing is he lives an hour and a half from me so I want to start feeling better because at some point he will want to introduce me to his family. My guy also used to have a restaurant and likes to cook and I want to teach him how to be able to cook for me. Thanks for letting me carry on. It helps to have other who know what I am going through. Ya'll are really sweet.

This is quite common. IBS is a disorder of the colon or large intestine not the stomach. It takes a 2-3 hours for food to reach the colon and then it can take 20-30 hours for it to pass through the colon. It isn't unusual for food that you ate many hours or day or two earlier to cause problems.

What are the ingredients in chicken strips?

Hi Syl! I made them myself. The only thing I added to them was some soy sauce. That could of been the culprit since I am in this sensitive stage right now. I had them with a little bread as well. I was also thinking it may be the sequence of my food. I wish someone could give me an example of some typical meals when transitioning from the very basics when I am having an attack to getting back to simple meals. Your advice, as always, is greatly appreciated.

Boy does this make sense to me....I have a "3 day rule"...I always wait 3 days after trying something new to see how my body reacts to it. It took me YEARS to figure this out...I would eat things and the next couple days feel great and then eat it again, etc...and couldn't figure out why days later I felt so terrible! Thanks Syl:)

I also find it very frustrating that symptoms can happen a day or two after you eat something. It makes it very difficult to figure out what I ate that is causing the problem. I am having a bit of trouble last night/this morning and am trying to figure out what is causing it, because I ate safely yesterday except for some onion/chard/tomatoes mixed into a fish stew I made, which I can generally tolerate as long as I eat it with a larger portion of rice. Perhaps it's going back another day to some chicken I ate with mashed potatoes and green beans. Ugh, how to know?

I have this problem too. But wow, diet sodas KILL my stomach. I can't drink them at all. That is a major trigger.

I alternate between C and D. But the EFI diet and teas have helped me a lot!

Yes, I had that too!

I had to limit myself to white rice, salad, and plain chicken breast. Its quite restrictive but you should only need to do it for a few days to feel better. Then start incorporating new foods every few days.

Are you seeing a doctor? I found a good one and have been extremely happy with the results.
