Good article...So...would be curious as to how many people on this board regularly eat wheat???? I have given it up but must admit always question whether it makes a difference or not. So many variables to consider
-------------------- IBS-D. Eating gluten and dairy free.
For example in the section "How Wheat May Sabotage Your Mental Health" they reference a study about multi-episode schizophrenia. The study does not say that gliadin caused schizophrenia - it only says that there increased antibodies to gliadin. They may share some immunologic features of celiac disease, but their immune response to gliadin differs from that of celiac disease. The study concludes "Furthermore, we could not determine whether the antibodies to gliadin contribute directly to the symptoms of recent-onset psychosis or schizophrenia."
The authors of the study couldn't establish a causal relationship between antibodies to gliadin and schizophrenia yet Dr. Mercola claims there is. Very strange!

Interesting.....that being said though...between celiac, food intolerances and the FODMAP issues aren't we better off avoiding wheat? Or is that too general a response?

If don't test positive for celiac disease and you have tried eliminating wheat for 2-3 weeks to see if you are sentive to fructans, a FODMAP, without any apparent improvement then there is no reason to avoid wheat.
