Hi - I am a singer and take Prevacid nightly for my acid reflux, as it burns my esophogus and effects my singing. I started taking it regularly 2 months ago and my IBS symptoms also subsided...or so I thought. I had mild to moderate Constipation for 2 months, and since it wasn't my normal diahhrea, I was thrilled and thought everything was fine, and neglected to see a doctor. Now - my IBS is back in FULL FORCE this week, keeping me up at night with the pains.... I am going to go see a doctor this week - but is there anything PARTICULAR I should do for the IBS/acid reflux combo? I'm going to go back on my soluble fiber supplements, which I stopped. I HAVE to take the prevacid or I can't sing/work. HELP!

I also have reflux and I have had to change medications a couple of times over the years. Although all the proton pump inhibitors (PPI) are similar (Prilosec, Prevacid, Nexium) they can still have different effects on someone. For example, Nexium upsets my stomach very much, Prevacid barely worked. Prilosec seems to be the one I tolerate best and it works well about 99% of the time. You may try switching to a different PPI and see if that helps.
