Groan . . .

Seven hours ago I made a pig of myself. (Why am I confessing this? I have no idea.)

I have been SOOOO good and starting to feel, well, not too bad. To "celebrate," I had an ADB. With canned frosting. Okay, that's not too awful, right? Well, it was so good, and I enjoyed it SOOO much, I had ANOTHER! I knew what I was doing, but I couldn't stop myself.

I went to bed and tossed and turned and groaned and moaned and drove my husband crazy. Finally, I just got up and came in the living room, still groaning, holding my head, and about ready to vomit. I'm very nauseated, had a fantastic BM, but still nauseated.

Here I am, 1:00 a.m., all alone, can't sleep, doubled over with nausea, suffering -- I know, I know, I deserve it all -- why do we do this to ourselves? (Please don't tell me I'm the only one who does this -- PUH-LEEZE!) It's just that it's so unfair -- I might as well have had a pork chop!

Oink oink.

You are definetely not the only one...at least I have to reward myself sometimes with "other" food, but it's funny as it's not too rewarding when we are in soo much pain!!

Hope your nausea goes away soon!

We do this because we are not perfect and we do have cravings. Cravings for us mean bad foods and than the tummy aches come from over eating.
Hope you feel better soon.

Mickey and Barbara,

Thanks so much for your kind wishes.

I am SOOOO not well! That was a rough nite -- and a rough start to the day today. Wow, is my tummy unhappy with me!

This attack seems unfounded -- I mean, come on, two brownies? I had forgotten about the home made vegetable soup I had earlier in the day. Any possibility that it may have contributed to my demise?

Wow (little piggy, lol!)
Seriously, I really feel for you Bev - you have to be far more disciplined than me. Generally, I don't tend to get those REALLY severe reactions to food quite as instantaneously and as violently as you, although I do have my moments. I certainly don't have to eat such tiny quantities - I don't know how you do it.

But I'm sure we all do that - testing ourselves when we're feeling good. It's only natural when we're feeling pretty good to forget momentarily just how awful it was when we were feeling soooo bad. Most of the time we cope, but sometimes it gets us down, right?

Yep, it's not fair.

Bevrs, It could be just one of those days when it doesn't matter what you eat or drink it's going to happen. Try and take it easy today, maybe have something with ginger and some of your favorite teas and read a book or maybe have a snooze as you have said in the past a sleep usually does you world of wonder!! Take care Sue

Shells, you're right. I do test myself, sometimes deliberately. This time wasn't deliberate, though, I was just making a pig of myself, closing my mind to what I knew was wrong.

I just got my head out of the toilet, took a Donnatal, some acacia and fennel-peppermint tea, so I'm going back to bed now -- with a heating pad for my tummy. My hubby's doing the banking and grocery shopping.

Nite nite! And thanks again!

You're not alone! Lately I've been eating larger quantities of chocolate and it finally caught up with me yesterday. Wow.. I had forgotten how awful a person can feel! AND I had to drive home from work after the attack! But I made it and learned my lesson. No more bad foods!!

Yeah, Ang, no more bad foods. In fact, NO MORE FOOD! I'm just sick and tired of dealing with this issue. I want my life back! It seems a real simple fix -- my doctor wants me to lose weight, food does not agree with me, SOOO.....

just stop eating.

C'mon Bev, don't give up!! It's rough and I still get mad that I have this stupid IBS, but when it comes down to it it's just how you look at things. Have you done the IBS Audio Program? That's helped me a lot. Supposedly things happen for a reason, right? Well I figure my reason is I'd weigh 500 lbs if I could eat all the fried food and chocolate I'd want!

My prescription for you is to make some peppermint tea and read a good book!

Gerry, your doctor told you to try a little bite of RED MEAT?!? WHY?!? And you had KFC? And ate the SKIN? EW. Well, Girlfriend, thanks for telling me -- it DOES help actually -- I see I'm not alone here. Thank you.

BUT -- you still crave the rotting carcass of a dead cow? YUK! Even the thought of a steak grosses me out now. Do you feel the same way about hamburgers? If so, have you tried Boca burgers? They're surprisingly VERY good.

Okay, now I'm getting a little hungry. Normally I'd say that's a good thing -- but I'm off food FOR GOOD!

Yes, but I prefer SALMON burgers! When we used to live in Northern California, we were close to Bodega Bay (where Hitchcock filmed "The Birds"), where we used to like to kayak. After our paddle, we'd stop in at Lucas Wharf and indulge in a Jack (of course) and THE BEST salmon burgers I've ever had in my life!

I'm trying to figure out what is in Salmon that doesn't agree with me. I know it is a great source for calcium, but it makes me really sick. I had grilled Salmon on New Years Eve and it was yummy, but I spent the rest of the night feeling like I was going to throw up.

I've love to eat more fish, but I found any that doesn't make me sick.

Salmon does have a lot of fat -- it's the healthy fat -- but fat just the same -- and that can trigger some people who are especially sensitive to fat. I have to stick to white fish

Does tuna do that to you? If salmon makes you sick, GIVE IT UP -- it just SOOO ain't worth it! I'm learning this lesson the HARD WAY, unfortunately. It's hard to give up food you love, but in the end, that's what we gotta do.

Oh, that's such bad luck! I could more than willingly never look at another piece of meat again as long as I can eat my fish. My favourites are salmon, trout and mackerel. And pilchards on toast are yummy too. I haven't found a fish yet I'm not keen on and none of it seems to bother me at all. I like swordfish too. Unfortunately, our good old Scottish (farmed) salmon has a bit of bad press at the moment as its full of deadly toxins. But then again, so is just about everything else in the foodchain, right?

I know when I go out to a restaurant, I can always eat fish, and it usually is served with new potatoes and veg, so it's a safe meal for me. I just have to try not to think about dessert (especially if everyone else is eating it).

I also think that fish is an especially good food for me as it's my 'ancestral' food. My ancestors were Scottish and Irish - natural fishermen who would have eaten huge amounts of fresh fish on this little island.

I think I'm in love with fish!!! lol!

LOL, Bev! We have a lovely healthy national diet don't we!!! (bangers, mash, kidney pudding etc).

Pilchards are fish - bit like sardines - this was a war-time staple food, tinned(canned) in tomato sauce and you eat them on toast - yummy yummy. You know, when we were on rations because we were fighting the Germans!!! But they're still around today and (now that I can eat toast again) it's back on my favourites list.

Tuna doesn't fair well with me either. I've tried all sorts of fish and just doesn't agree with me. My choice for News Year's Eve was steak or salmon - thought salmon was the better choice.

Guess I'll stick with chicken and turkey.

I am sorry you got so sick.I am glad you shared about your choice to eat what makes you sick.I have felt this way many times but haven't had the courage to say I did it.It always feels like I am so stupid, yet I know that the degree of my limitations is just going to cause me to fall off the IBS track from time to time(I also have celiac disease and can have no wheat products, which seem to be in everything). I do think that getting so sick is beginning to help me go a longer time w/out making a bad choice. Now that I know the causes,I am better able to hunt for a second best, like something else I like but it won't make me sick.
Anyway, thanks for sharing.I really benefited from reading all the responses too.

Yes Val you're right, there is a lot of fat in salmon (7 grams in 4 oz.) ....the good heart healthy kind of fat, but fat nonetheless. For some people with IBS it just doesn't bother them if they are only eating a normal 4 oz. serving with other no-fat foods like rice. As much as I LOVE salmon (and I mean REALLY love it) I have to choose the lower fat white fish types instead...halibut---2 g. fat in 4oz and cod with 1 g. per 4oz. My sensitivity to salmon happened ONLY with the onset of IBS...darn .... Sooo, if you try it don't overdo it-----and see what happens. You may be fine. Someday I'm going to try to make my own salmon burgers with more rice/mushrooms/and canned salmon which seem to be a bit lower in fat and see what happens.

I'm glad you shared your experience with us, Bev. Most of us, if not all, have gone through the same thing of giving in to our cravings, but were too embarrassed and ashamed to tell anyone what we had done. {{{{hugs}}}}}. My downfalls are: chocolate, ranch dip and chips, cheese and lots of it, basically anything that tastes good. I've been trying to be a good girl and eat better....but there are those days when I want everything bad for me because other people can eat it...why can't I.
