I have IBS-D and while the psyllium I take does have a stool bulking effect, it does nothing for my urgency and I actually think it may add to my frequency of movements.

As you probably know psyllium is 2/3 soluble fiber and 1/2 insoluble fiber. You might have better results if you try a 100% soluble fiber supplement. However, it is worth noting that not everyone is help by fiber supplements particularly those containing insoluble fiber.

Thanks Syl as I did not realize that psyllium had IF - I thought it was 100% soluble. This might explain the opposing effects of bulking vs. urgency. I will definitely find and try something 100% soluble - any suggestions?

Yes - IF will definitely produce bulking but it is also a strong GI stimulant.

Of course you can try Heather's tummy fiber or there are OTC products such as Benefiber. Be careful of products that contain inulin.

for me, Psyllium caused incredible PAIN, cramping, and very violent diarrhea..and i am predominantly constipated! the acacia fiber works great for me, however, and it has decreased my IBS problems so much, particularly bloating. you should give it a try!
