I never assumed the fructose breath test didn't just test your breath without any prep. So now I was planning on doing it Thursday and it will be horrible because I cannot go without food that long. Plus there is nothing you can eat the day before except rice and fish for me- no fruits or vegetables or anything. I am not prepared to eat that way tomorrow so I have to put the test off until next week I guess. Well I'll think about it. What a b***h to have to do this! It is so much easier and less expensive to just drink 3 glasses of grape juice on an empty stomach.

ooo just noticed citrus is not on the list of what to avoid. aack I am starting to get a few ideas of what I could eat tomorrow but it will be rough.

Here is the procedure Cedars-Sinia uses. It doesn't seem as stringent as the one you have to follow. Strange

Unfortunately, 3 glasses of grape juice won't give you much information especially if it is pure white grape juice since it has equal amount of fructose and glucose. Usually they use a 25 gram load of pure fructose for the test. You would have to dissolve about 2 tablespoons of pure fructose powder in water to get the same load

This test is Quintron. It has a list of things to avoid the day before and a suggestion of dinner as plain chicken or fish and plain rice or eggs or chicken broth.
It doesn't mention peas or oats on the list and I wonder if I can eat those but it does mention grains and beans. I have leftover snap peas and tofu for lunch tomorrow but maybe can't have it. I also would like to have oatmeal for breakfast. It also doesn't mention spinach but does say no lettuce and no potatoes and I assume sweet potatoes. It also doesn't list citrus fruits.
The test says water is ok in small amounts but no sleeping between test start and end which was an idea I had to be able to go without food that long.

Here is a link to the Quintron collection kit and instructions. It says the same thing as Cedars-Sinai

No antibiotics in recent past.
No high IF foods or slowly digested foods (eg red meat, high fat, veggies, beans, grains, etc) the day before the test
Fasting for 12 hours - water permissible.

Oats could be a problem. Tofu should be fine. Veggies like lettuce are a no because of their high IF so spinach and snap peas are probably a no too. Time for some peeled boiled carrots and zucchini Citrus juice would be okay but probably not the fruits because of the IF.

Carrots and zucchini are both on the no list. I don't think I can live on rice and lean protein alone all day, not even a banana or orange or anything.

Yea - I guess they could be put there since many people eat them unpeeled.

Its two days. One day of prep eating and one morning of fasting while doing the test. I am working tomorrow (at a grocery store) so it will be hard to just eat rice all day. I generally eat a lot of fruit.

So like a colonoscopy, which is one day of clear fluids the day before, but instead you get to eat rice?
