I want to take a cruise with my family. I have never been on one before so I don't know what to expect. I have had IBS for a year now and have it under control (Thank you, Heather!) but this is a new situation. Has anyone with IBS-D taken a cruise? I also tend to get a little motion sickness in long or windy car rides but nothing too distressing. I was thinking about the dramamine pills or patches for the cruise but I don't know about the side affects for an IBS-D. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cruises are amazing for the food. I have never been on one...but my dad has.

But hopefully angylroses will be able to help you...she's been a cruise...infact, if I remember correctly that's where her profile pic was taken.

Ohhhh Jennniii, someone needs you LOL

Well, as far as motion sickness, I think it depends on where you're cruising and when. We cruised to the Caribbean once and also the Hawaiian Islands once. While the Caribbean was calm, it was the right time of the year -- not during hurricane season -- so the cruising was smooth, thus no motion sickness.

On the other hand, we cruised the Hawaiian Islands, and took a side cruise from Maui to Lanai, not knowing it was one of the roughest seas -- wow, EVERYONE got seasick. The island literally ran out of seasick pills!

I used a wrist ("pressure") band that was supposed to ward off seasickness. I don't know if it worked, because I was very woozy -- but at least I didn't puke!

Oh, and if you DO get seasick, it's best to just lay down somewhere -- ANYWHERE -- where the floor below you is solid, and try to forget that there's ocean underneath that floor!

Good luck!

Bev

Yup! I went on a cruise last August and had a blast! I personally think cruises are the best vacations for people with IBS because you almost always have a bathroom close by.

There was a previous thread about cruises that I posted on, which might help with any and all questions you have: web page .

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll be able to answer them!

As for the motion sickness, I took motion sickness pills at the beginning of the cruise as a precaution, and found I didn't need them at all.. with the exception of when we took a ferry to an island and the waters were really rocky.

Have a great time on your cruise!
