I just saw an item in a health magazine about a new probiotic being developped in Canada for IBS.

Here is the link to the manufacturer's webpage. There is a link on that page to access the Press Release which provides more detail. Curious for anyone's thoughts...

Are you talking about the probiotic yeast Lynside® Pro GI+? If yes, it is an announcement of a clinical trial of their strain of the probiotic yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii. It will be a couple of years before they have any results.

There has been a few small clinical trials using this yeast. It is known to be effective for managing antibiotic-associated intestinal, traveler's diarrhea and IBD. There have been a couple of small IBS clinical trials with encouraging results. It will be interesting to see how it works,

I have tried all of Heather's high quality products for IBS-D and disappointingly none really seemed to make much of a difference and my symptoms were in fact severe with substantial weight loss. I had all the diagnostics with my Internist and GI doctors with very little helpful results. I highly suspect a Small Bowel Bacterial Overgrowth from antibiotic treatments.
I found that for the past couple months taking Saccharomyces boulardii +MOS (Jarrow brand) has really made a noticeable difference! I am also looking at trying Flora3 (Lane Labs) which is similar with an additional ingredient. Worth a try it can't hurt and fairly inexpensive compared to others. I buy through www.NEEDS.com.
