For IBS-C, are ripe or unripen bananas a better choice? I have been reading that unripen bananas are good for IBS-D and if they become to ripe, then can make you C. Can anyone clarify this for me? For C, which should I eat?

Thanks

Banana have a lot of soluble fiber and resistant starch which acts like soluble fiber. As a banana ripens the starch is converted to sugar such as fructose. Soluble fiber is good for managing IBS symptoms.

The best tasting banana with a high amount of soluble fiber and resistant starch are semi ripe bananas that are still firm i.e. yellow with some green but no brown spots. You may find this brief article of interest.

I like to eat mine yellow with little to no spots. If I eat them too green they give me cramps and if I eat them too spotty they make me gag.

posting this again as I did not do it properly last time:

'ripe bananas with brown spots can actually be problematic if one has issues with fructose malabsorption'?

So for IBS-C,at what point shouldn't you eat the banana? When there are a couple of brown stops or many? I don't want to eat them when they are going to make me even more constipated them I already em.

Thanks

Bananas contain the most soluble fiber when they are yellow with some green and no brown/black spots.

Oh dear, thanks for this, a lot of the times I did eat my bananas with nothing but brown spots, they were hugely overripe.

another question about bananas if I may. Can they make you more hungry?

(I know that apples can and I certainly have experienced that, always) but that has also been the case with bananas sometimes. any explanation?

another thing is that bananas are great for keeping one's blood sugar levels on an even keel, right? and then they are great for concentration? But I read and this too has certainly been borne out by experience as well sometimes that bananas can send you to sleep (ie it was recommended for you to eat bananas before bedtime for insomnia) in which case they are definitely not helping with concentration?

yes I have found that I am more hungry when I used to just eat an apple, banana's seem to hold me pretty good. Especially in the morning when I have troubles keeping my sugar stable.
I haven't found that they make me sleepy or help in concentration,so that is a new one.

I know and the window of them being at the perfect time to eat is not that big, sometimes within days. Who can keep going to the store every other day to buy banana's. By to many and they get spots before you can eat them and you end up having to either bake with them or throw them away. I don't have anyone else that will eat bananas.
