couscous millet iceberg lettuce cabbage
if Syl or anyone else could give me their well-considered opinion especially if you have experience on top of the values presented in charts?
Also, why do I have problems with soups?

thanks very much!
Suspected that regarding lettuce and cabbage, but green leafy vegetables again cannot be eliminated from one's diet.
Soups, every type of soup I've had since IBS. No specifics, not much help, but even when they were pronounced 'harmless' by my mother. Not so important, am not a huge fan and very rarely eat soup.

I don't eat leafy green veggies of any kind. There is no reason they cannot be eliminated although it is better if you don't have to eliminate them. They are 95% water, 1% IF, 3% carbs and they contain some minerals and vitamins that can easily be gotten from other foods.
Soup per se won't be the problem. It will be the ingredients it contains that cause the problems

I also tend to feel pretty bad after soup. Even when I painstakingly choose a soup that doesn't contain any triggers (and we're talking homecooked or restaurant, not canned). I just chalked it up to hot liquids just not interacting well with me. I wish I could have a more scientific answer though.

IMO it is best to stay completely away from iceberg! lettuce and regular cabbage. I do okay with Chinese cabbage- especially homegrown, but can't eat cabbage. Iceberg bothers even normal people. Baby greens are much more tolerable or a nice, tender leaf lettuce or butter lettuce.
-------------------- IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
