Hey guys

In the fall, I'll be heading off to Vassar College. I've visited there twice and eaten in the cafeteria twice, but made a meeting with the food services to address some concerns.

I made a thread a few months ago about my concerns with college food. Mainly, I'm slow to adapt to new foods, and the stressful transition to a new home alone will make me extra-sensitive.

Right now, I think it will be OK. The head of food services was friendly and seemed extremely accommodating and tolerant. Everything in the cafeteria is labelled with ingredients, and there are binders giving the nutrition value of foods. Vassar has a few special meal counters, one for vegans, and one for people with food allergies. These provide some simple foods, like plain cold cuts, brown rice, tofu, and hummus, all every day. There is no shortage of vegetables, with a salad bar and stir fry station, and the food seems to be of fairly high quality

Anyway, I figured I would post because I'm very happy with how the meeting turned out. For the past year, I've been doing very well, but relied on a few staples of my diet. Now, I know that at college, there will be plenty of food that I can eat. I'll have to start slow with some foods (e.g. beans, hummus), but I hope that soon enough I'll have a variety of every-day food I feel comfortable with, and I can put my eating worries aside

Wonderful news! I am so glad that your meeting with food services went well and that you will have healthy, safe food choices. One less thing to worry and stress about. Hopefully this will make starting school a little easier.
