Will a good nutritonist understand the IBS diet?

From what I know, doctors still don't have a clue about the IBS diet. They still say have lots of "fiber", even insoluable fiber.
Are nutritionists up on this thing too, or can I possibly find one who knows our needs.
I really feel like I'm missing the boat as far as my diet is going sometimes with this, being that I can't eat half the stuff my old nutritonist prescribed to me a couple years ago before I started taking my symptoms seriously.

You may find a nutritionist who understands but I suspect you might have to do a bit of searching. On the other hand you could ask a nutritionist if you provide them with some background information to read so they could give you additional guidance about the diet then perhaps you might have some success. Heather's book and a couple of background documents I can point you to should be all that is required.

Just my .02 - I met with a nutritionist near Buffalo who actually did tell me to eat more soluble, more easy to digest foods. Which excited me. Then she went on to tell me to switch from Benefiber to Metamucil because Metamucil is more soluble. Which we all know isn't true.
I think Syl is right. I think most nutritionists have it drilled into their heads that fiber is the solution to IBS. But many may be open to reading the research if you present it to them. Not in an "I know more than you" way, but in a "Hey, what about this?" kind of way.

There is a great nutritonist here in Seattle that will do over the phone consultations and specializes in IBS.
