Just hang in there, Julie, and soon your good days will out-number your bad. You have to give the changes you make time to work, and that goes for the hypnotherapy, too.

On the bad days, just know there are many good ones ahead of you. Keep that in the forefront of your thinking. -k-

Julie, I am not on this site everyday so I don't know all the facts about your situation, but from reading your posts it seems to me that you could really use some professional help. I believe you are seeing Peter Whorewell for hypnotherapy, but are you getting any other kind of support, i.e. from a therapist, your GP, a naturopath or a gastroenterologist? Given the tone of your posts - scared, helpless, desperate, confused, and revisiting the same diet questions over and over again - it seems to me that relying on the advice of the well-meaning folk on this website is simply not sufficient to address your current needs. You need one-on-one contact with skilled professional to develop a treatment plan for yourself. I know I am not the only person on this site who reads your posts with continuing concern about you. You seem to be stuck and dealing with more than you can cope with alone. What kind of help is in your life?

So very true and a very kind and honest post here. Unfortunately some people do not want to look inward for their answers and would rather look outward to others to solve their problems and give them easy answers, which do not exist.

I admire your courage to post here and tell it like it is.

Hi Julie,

There are some folks who perceive their condition as getting worse for a time when doing hypnotherapy; this perception happened to me. This is because your mind-body connection is working to change things, and sometimes your perception of what is happening is different than what is actually taking place. It is hard to compare how badly or better you have felt in the past with the pain you feel "right now."

The fact that you are having in-person hypnotherapy, may be helpful in that you should relay your concerns to your therapist - they certainly are better able to help than we can!

Another aspect of hypnotherapy that is a gut-directed or gut-specific protocol for IBS, is that constantly reading about IBS, typing in your symptoms and concerns over and over, talking about it, thinking about it even when you are not in pain or having an attack, actually helps to reinforce the IBS thoughts. The protocol is helping to direct your thoughts away from IBS symptoms - I know it is hard not to think about them, but if you did take a break away from reading about IBS, and discussing it, you may find that you will get a bit better - And I am talking from experience, as I constantly was on BBs and thinking about the condition - when your thoughts are elsewhere when you are feeling better, you reinforce positives -

This being said, you are getting some good advice here in that you do need to have your concerns addressed by medical professionals in person, rather than relying on cyber space to address your condition. While we can support and sympathize, there is no way that anyone can adequately address your needs via an internet bulletin board.

Please do seek personal care for all your concerns - I know it is hard, hon, we all have been there, and have to find our own journey to feeling better - For myself, having had IBS since 1983 and being almost housebound much of that time, I can certainly relate to your frustration - but there is hope - just keep trying and do get some professional medical in-person consultation..
(((HUGS))) to you - all the best.

Take care. xx
