I tried it and personally would NOT recommend it to anybody. There are reports that it can cause ovarian cysts, for starters. It's specifically for women who are IBS-C, and the side-effects of the first week or so mean many emergency trips to the restroom - I had to take 2 days off work when I started taking it. It didn't help with pain, bloating, etc.

Just for everyone's information, I was put on Zelnorm about a week ago for IBS-C, and my quality of life has gone through the roof. No more bloating, constipation, or pain. It's a godsend for me! I guess I'm just one of the lucky ones.

My doctor has not said I have IBS but put me on Zelnorm to try & control my constipation. I have been on this medication for several months with no side effects that I am aware of. It has cured my constipation but not my pain. My pain is is not in my abdomen it starts under my left shoulderblade & burns it's way to the right, my saliva glads work overtime like when you are about to throw up. It feels like someone has rammed a red hot poker thru my side. It goes away after I have a bowel movement. I also have GERD & a hiatal hernia. I take Prevacid for the GERD & seem to have that under control also. The pain from the reflux & the hernia (when I eat the wrong food) is located in the same area but without the burning. I have learned to tell the difference between them & when it starts to burn I head for the bathroom even if I do not feel the need to go. Invariably I will have a bm & the pain will dissappear. It doesn't happen ever time but I never know when it will or won't so I can't go anywhere alone because when it hits I can't drive. Ever heard of anyone else with the pain in this location?
