I can't do onion or garlic powder. The rest look ok except for the unknown spices. You might have to experiment.

I am a chef aperson.

This might bother some pople and others not, personally it doesn't bother me and I have had it before. I don't eat a lot of mexican foods for the most part. This is a very individualized thing.

What are you using the spice on?

Since they don't give the information on the label we have no way of knowing. I suspect they are Mexican spices of some sort perhaps to some heat, etc. It might be ok for you. I tend to stay away from those kind of products.

to create seasoned taco meat, I just add salt, black pepper, and cumin. Yummy! If you can tolerate onion and/or garlic, you could add fresh or dried onion powder to the meat, and fresh or dried garlic. Sometimes I also add salsa, but since there is onions I can't do that anymore. If you season meat yourself, it's more economical in the long run and you don't have to worry about hidden ingredients.

To know for sure, I'd create my own mexican taco seasoning as someone mentioned before. Then you know exactly what is in there. You will not know if you dont try it. So far I have been able to tolerate onion/onion powder and garlic/garlic powder. Its sorta like try and eliminate.

My husband and I use this all the time to make tacos. I've never had a problem with it...unless my reflux is acting up, but ANY taco type dinner could do that!
Hope that helps! It's very cost effective too, b/c we get quite a few taco dinners out of that bottle. I like the ground turkey with taco seasoning and some soy cheddar cheese in a soft tortilla! yum!

The basic ingredients in packaged taco seasoning are as follows:

2 tsp. chili powder
1 1/2 tsp. paprika
1 1/2 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. onion powder
3/4 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cayenne

Anything you personally can't tolerate, just eliminate that ingredient.

Also some packaged ones add ground cilantro, oregano and perhaps some cornstarch thickener. It's also good that you add a little water and/or tomato sauce or paste while incorporating the seasonings into the browned meat. I personally just toss the seasonings on while I'm browning the meat, and then add a little water and tomato sauce and let the skillet simmer on low for a few minutes. There is no specific way that works better than another as far as I know.

Making your own seasoning is far less expensive than buying the packaged products, and at least you know what exactly is in it. Once you experiment in small quantities and find the seasonings you really like, then you can make a LARGE batch and store it a glass jar with a tight fitting lid.

Then, you also won't ever need to purchase packaged taco seasoning again, and it is just as good on a lot of other things.
