of drinking soy milk and having no problems I now have to give it up. Lately I have been having horrible gas which starts in the afternoon and continues until I fall asleep at night. By process of elemination I have discovered it is the soy milk that I have every morning for breakfast.
Not sure I understand why my body can no longer tolerate soy milk but I guess it is the nature of IBS. I bought Almond Milk last night and will give it a try and see what happens.

I found it scary I wonder if it can actually affect birth control pills or moods and such or cause me to spot or start my period early.

So now I know why I have gone up a size, ha ha! I don't think it is worth the gas though.

If it helps, I drink Rice Dream Rice Milk for regular cereal and milk. They also have a vanilla flavor if you like that.

and I do not like the taste. I really miss Silk Vanilla Soy Milk.
I guess I will try rice milk next and see how that tastes. I have used plain rice milk to make mashed potatoes. Just never used it on cereal, in a smoothie or with oatmeal.

As a male, hearing stories like that months ago led me away from soy milk and to rice milk (almond milk just has too much fat and not enough protein). Rice milk is like water, but safe water. I still have the chocolate soy milk occasionally when I want a treat.
At my limited consumption (I also eat soy protein bars - cliff brand - three or so times a week, and soy sauce. No tofu, tempeh, or anything like that) I don't think it's a problem. There was a scary article in GQ about it where this guy literally became like a woman emotionally and had some severe physical problems including gynocomastia (sp?) like what Piven was speaking about.
Dr. Andrew Weil in his latest nutrition guide basically says that the ill effects of soy are played up and only surface with extreme consumption. He says the benefits far outweigh the risks. I agree, and keep my specialty soy food content down, since like 90% of everything we eat has some soy in it (usually as soy lecithin).
