Figuring out % fat

When we are trying to figure out percent fat in an item, are we supposed to look at % Daily values or do we look at calories from fat and do:
calories from fat/total number of calories in the item x 100% = % calories from fat (and this should be under 25% to be safe?)

The DV chart has the number of calories that are fat out of the total calories. It is pretty easy to them determine what percentage that is. That skips the step of changing the fat gram number into calories to divide into the total calories. Remember it is the percentage of fat in each meal or in the gut at one time.
