I am writing a letter to the GI department at the hospital where I received my "diagnosis" of IBS. I feel that my doctors committed all the "Seven Deadly Doctor IBS Sins" that Heather recently listed in the newsletter: http://www.helpforibs.com/news/newsletter/09/082509.html#askheather

I also think that I needed everything that was said in "what IBS patients need but don't get from their doctors" http://www.helpforibs.com/news/newsletter/06/050206.html#askheather

and I certainly DID NOT get it... at all.

I am going to submit an anonymous letter to the department, not singling out any doctor but explaining the need for improvement in the ability to provide quality compassionate care to IBS patients.

Who's with me? If you had an unpleasant experience with your GI doctor, maybe you could do the same and we will be one step closer to improving care for people suffering from IBS.

Not to be rude or non-supportive, but I can guarantee you that that would include everyone on these boards. I can tell you nightmare stories from my childhood until now.

Maybe you can be the next Heather. She has single-handedly given IBS sufferers a place to go, when their idiotic doctors tell them something ridiculous to do, tell them it's all in their head, or laugh them out of their office.

I wish you all the luck in the world!!!!

Thanks! I know it is probably everyone on the board... I hope people will voice their frustrations to their doctors and show them the research that has been done so that perhaps doctors will look into learning a little bit more about IBS instead of just dismissing it. It may not be "life threatening" in the sense of mortality, but we all know that it has not only threatened our previous way of life but destroyed it. Thank goodness this website exists where we can actually get good information.

A joke comes to mind regarding this. Do you know the difference between God and a doctor? God knows he's not a doctor. This is how I feel around most doctors.
