I have been reading about how tea is suppose to be so soothing for IBS. My problem comes with the fact that I can't seem to get past the taste of herbal teas (I start gagging instantly). I need something warm and soothing as water isn't helping at all. Is there anything other than herbal tea that will help?

You can try rooibos tea - it tastes more like real tea than herbals. It doesn't provide any of the medicinal benefits of stuff like ginger and peppermint but the warmth can be quite comforting.

Honey bush tea is even better - to me it tastes almost exactly like Lipton - but I simply cannot find it anymore.

Is it just fennel tea that is unappealing or peppermint and ginger too? What about chamomile? Just try making them weak at first with lots of sugar. My favorite tummy tea is Traditional Medicinals Eater's Digest- tastes better than fennel alone. It makes a difference if they are fresh and hot too. It is just something some people have to get used to.

Thankyou both for the suggestions. I will have to try them all(if I can find them, that is ) No, I can't stand drinking the peppermint or ginger. I had once tried a raspberry herbal tea. Do you think that would help, hurt, or neither? Thanks again for replying.

Unless there's artificial sweeteners in them they should be fine. Maybe you could try blending the teas with the roobios or try the peppermint oil caplets.

If your looking for soothing warmth have you tried a heat pad?

Any hot herbal tea will work like a heating pad. I recommend both. And put the hot cup on your tummy while drinking the tea.

I used a thermacare pad on my tummy during my flight from Vancouver to Scotland. I normally get very bloated on planes and the pad (and the fennel tea) really helped. I was also lucky enough to get three seats to myself so I got plenty of sleep.
