If anxiety is the reason for ibs then would a probiotic even be helpful for the urgency? Would it still be healthy just in general to take?

Anxiety does not cause IBS. It is an IBS trigger.
IBS is believed to be caused by a miscommunication between the gut and the brain. An inflammation in the bowel wall or a unbalanced bacterial flora in the bowel are possible causes of the miscommunication. Some probiotics such as Align have an anti-inflammatory which is believed to be one of the possible ways for managing IBS for some people.

Syl is 100% right. Anxiety does not cause ibs but is or can be a huge trigger for alot of people. Even depression for me can cause my ibs to flare up, not bad just enough to say hello I'm still here lol

Thank you so much for clearing that up. I feel like since I have had ibs-d I now have extreme anxiety. My gi doc seems to think that stress/anxiety is the reason I have the urgent bowel movements. I never had anxiety until I had my ibs symptoms. But what do they really know? Not alot it seems at times. I know if I can get my anxiety under control it will help lessen my symptoms but it won't make it go away. That seems to be what my gi doc thinks at this point cause we can't seem to find anything from the tests we've ran.
