I can tolerate oatmeal well. I was thinking about trying one of those raw oatmeal recipes where you let it soak in liquid all night. However, is oatmeal one of those instances where cooking it makes it easier for an IBS girl? Is the insoluble fiber located on the outside of the oatmeal and the soluble on the inside...or does it not matter?

Oatmeal like that would be equal to eating granola, which I can handle but I suppose many can't. If you can eat granola you can do it. I have made the soak overnight oatmeal and it wasn't what I thought it would be.

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Cooking releases the SF in oatmeal. Soaking in cold water does not. It requires heat. Soaked oatmeal will be higher in IF while cooked oatmeal is about equal amounts of SF and IF.

That's what I thought. I don't know if I can eat granola or not, but I don't really feel like testing to find out. I quite enjoy my oatmeal cooked anyway and I feel lucky that I can tolerate that. Thanks Syl and Little Minnie!
