I did a search and can't find the exact post I want. Please someone explain to me in simple terms how to figure the fat content in a product. I think it's take the calories and divide by the fat content? I was thinking there was another step. Example. I have a safe bar that has 200 calories and 4.5 grams of fat. What is the fat percentage? Thank you........

1 gram of fat has 9 calories.
The bar contains 4.5 grams of fat or 40 calories. Therefore, 40/200 or 20% of the bar is fat.

Hi Syl,

So basically I would take the fat x 9 and divide into the calorie content correct?

fat X 9 / calories = %

sounds right. For a *quick* check of a label, I sort of multiply the fat grams times ten (for simplicity) and guess what part of the total calories that is.
