Does anyone who has recently started align have any feedback yet? I bought some but haven't started it yet.

I have been on Align for about a week so I'm not sure if its going to work or not but I can say it hasn't made anything worse wich is a good thing. As far as the end result I am still waiting to see myself.

I'm on day six. I've felt better over last two days, but also been watching my diet closely. I've had a few crampy twinges (what I get before full blown IBS attack) and still took Bentyl, since I was going out in public. It says the first week you will feel gassy and bloated, but I haven't felt these symptoms. I decided I will take for one month, go off a week to see if any difference, if there is and I feel worse, I'll go back. If no difference noted, I won't buy again. I'm looking for something to really help me with urgency and diareah attacks. If I continue to have with the align, it won't make sense to keep buying. If these issues stop or significanty decline, I'll be happy to keep buying. The bentyl I take about 1/2 hour before going out in public for dinner and then I also follow up with a beano at the start of the meal. These two together do help when in public, along with watching what I eat. I'm taking my pill at bedtime.

I've been taking it for the past 1.5 years along with a number of other pro-biotics. Haven't noticed that any of them help me although it does help some people. You have to try it for yourself to see if it works on your body.

I tried it for 4 weeks before I found Heather's book- it did not help me at all then. I was actually put on several very pricey probiotics by my gastro and not one made even the slightest difference. SF seem to be my best bet.

Align has really helped my symptoms. I've been on it for about 2 months now and I have less bloating, gas and urgency. (I am IBS-D). If you can get past the first couple of weeks or so I would recommend trying it. The first couple of weeks are an adjustment period, where you may not have any relief of symptoms. But once your system adjusts, you should feel some relief.

I should add to my post that I have been adhering to the EFI diet and take the peppermints caps as well. Align has been an added boost to my routine of monitoring my IBS.

I started it five weeks ago. I am starting the first pill of week 6 tomorrow.

I would say that it helped me, but then again I'm sure no one here has the patience to try one thing at a time while their symptoms are raging. That is, when I began taking Align I began a whole lot of other stuff, so who knows what did what.

First of all, the good. The issues I had at first and what led to my (preliminary) IBS diagnosis were frequent urgency, and D. These two problems have all but been taken out. I have had D a couple times in the sense of multiple solid movements a day (up to five one day after a couple days of C) but not what I personally define D as, which is urgent, watery D. I have had urgency once or twice, but it is MUCH improved and controllable. That alone is worth the price of admission.

The bad: My symptoms seemed to have evolved. Align says it has no side effects but I have read end users claim it gave them C somewhere and I have no history in my life of C. I began Align and am also currently following the diet and have tons more fiber every day than ever in my life, and yet I have had C three to four times in the past two months. Now, it's not crazy three day C like some of the people on here - in fact, some times it was only one day - but I call it C because I felt super full and had sharp pains in my midsection, and couldn't relieve myself. So for all intents and purposes the only thing I can think that's causing the C is the Align. Unless removing fats and red meat and dairy from my diet can somehow paradoxically cause C. The Align has also done nothing for my overall constant feeling of tightness, discomfort, and just general yuckiness.

What I think is that IBS symptoms can be caused by a number of factors, all lumped together as IBS. I think there are some people whose major issue is that have a bad ratio of gut bacteria for some reason or another. For those people, Align will work like a miracle and they will be "normal" again after a month or so of taking it. However, if the symptoms, as it seems to be in my case, are not so much caused by bad bacteria in the colon, but by stress or food difficulties or anything else, then a probiotic will be helpful but not life changing. That's just what I think and there are a thousand people on here who know more than I do, but it's how I rationalize my limited but generally positive results with Align.

thanks to everyone who shared their experience! I must say, to hear that it caused some of you Ds to become C, that was worrisome since I'm already a C.

I think I will try it anyway, for a while. Have to try anything with this IBS!

I have had IBS-D for the past five years. Started taking Align probiotic in February 2009. Since then I have had a lot of pain and cramping and am finally realizing that I now have IBS-C. It is as bad as the D in that it is kept me house-bound with much cramping and multiple (often futile) trips to the bathroom each day. I stopped taking the Align GI last night and am increasing my fiber (I know, am only supposed to do one thing at a time but am desperate). Only time will tell if Align was the culprit but it's the only thing I can think of. I thought I would be relieved that the D isn't an issue but clearly the flipside is just as bad as many of you can attest to.

I read the ingredients of Align and it contains sugar, lactose and yeast?????
All of these ingredients are either triggers or aggravating to IBS. Especially since there are some studies that show yeast overgrowth may lead to ibs and sugar feeds yeast.
And containing milk ingredients?? that isolates half of ibs sufforers who are lactose intolerant. I don't get it?
I have been using digestive advantage and philips colon health, I haven't seen that much of an improvement.
All you need is a good probiotic from your health food store, IMHO. All these name brand items are just marketing ploys, IMHO.

Align does not contain lactose or yeast but it does contain sugar which is not an IBS trigger. Align contains the following ingredients

Bifantis (Bifidobacterium infantis 35624) 1 x 109 colony-forming units (1 billion) (4 mg), microcrystalline cellulose (for even dispersal of cultures), hypromellose (vegetarian capsule shell), sugar, magnesium stearate (for even dispersal of cultures), milk protein†, titanium dioxide, sodium citrate dihydrate, propyl gallate (antioxidant stabilizer), FD&C blue #2, FD&C blue #1, riboflavin (colorant)

The company states specifically that "This product does not contain lactose, soy, or gluten". The milk protein are residual from the culturing process and the product contains minuscule amounts. The company says " Milk protein is an ingredient that is added to the product during the culturing process. Federal food regulations require dietary supplement manufacturers to mention on the label if any milk or soy components may be present."

The amount of milk protein and sugar in each capsule is minuscule.

Very few probiotics have been clinically tested on IBS suffers. Align, VSL#3 and DA have been clinically tested. Unfortunately not any good probiotic available from a health food store will have positive effects on IBSers.

Well I tried Align for a month and had no improvement not even the slightest. So on to try the next probiotic which I have no idea which one that will be. Right now I just started Lomotil just so I can get out of my house until I find something that works. I was thinking of trying a probiotic that has to stay in the frige. I'm not sure that would make a difference but you never know.

Sorry to hear Align isn't working for you. Probiotics don't work for everyone. Maybe you will have luck with another probiotic. The effectiveness of a probiotic is not determined by the fact that it needs to be kept in the fridge. Most probiotics can be manufacturer so they don't have to be refrigerated but they costs more to make. You might look for another probiotic that contains another species of Bifidobacterium other than infantis which is in Align. Apparently, Bifidobacterium are showing better results for IBSers than other genera of bacteria such as Lactobacillus.
