Every afternoon I eat a peeled apple and some dry roasted edamame. Whether I'm hurting or not. If I'm not hurting, I'm still probably stressed out. Anyway, after my afternoon snack, I usually get bloated with foul gas. (like running the dog out of the room gas ) It's very embarrassing, and I can't run to the br every time I need to poot. Does this sound like a fructose intolerance from the apple, or is it just the IBS acting up regardless?

Sounds like it might be the edemame? I get the same thing with my crunchy peanut butter snack in the afternoon. I have given that up the last 3 days and voila...I actually am hungry for dinner.

It could be. The simplest thing to do is remove apples from your diet for a few days and see if the problem resolves itself.

I'm betting it's the edamame, not the apple, that's giving you problem.s Remember, they're beans! Soybean products (tofu, soy ice cream etc) give me foul gas too. Unless you are fructose intolerant, my money's on the beans - cut them out and leave in the apple and see how you do.

is one of those things that is gas producing but you can get used to it after a long while. I would try to change out the apple for a time and the edamame for a time, at separate times. Also apples and pears are gassy too even for normal people. (I always use my husband as a gauge of what causes gas in normal people)

"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

apple skins can be an issue for me on a bad day... edamame I can deal with in moderation.. but they can be a trigger too.

Oh Kappy! Apples are the WORST for me. They are very high in fructose and gas producing at best. The soy nuts are the same - a major gas producer. Google 'high fructose fruits' and there is a wealth of information on the fruits highest in naturally occuring fructose.
Hope this helps !

By the way: I am a total veggie girl - almost all fruit is too rocky for me !

Oh Janice! I'm so sorry, fruit and veggies are my life! I dunno what I'd do without fruit!!! I have not eaten an apple or soybeans for the last two days, and I haven't had many problems, but I haven't had a BM today either . I am going to give it till tonight after supper before I decide whether or not I'm constipated or just have slow bowels today! Sometimes I go after breakfast, sometimes after lunch, but on bad days it's after dinner. Hey, at least it's predictable!
Thank you for the advice!
