Was diagnosed by a GI dr. 5 days ago. Have already gotten Heather's big kit and read book. My question is my pain is not low, it is across the bottom edge of my ribs,like where the diaphram is and is hot particularly on the right side. Is this unusual for IBS? When I stand up it feels like everything is falling.

Welcome to the boards! Heather's kits really help out ALOT!
No, this is very common in IBS. (for me that is) That is your transverse colon that creates pain under the ribs. I know how you feel. It's very painful. The falling part I'm not quite sure about.

Thanks for replying. Am totally overwhelmed right now with change of foods, lifestyle, reading, doctor appts., etc. When I stand up entire stomach feels heavy. Must be due to bloating. Kinda feels like labor pains or contractions. Had to buy new jeans with bigger waist just to go out in public.

Oh yeah, that's definitely how I feel when I get a flare up.
When you are bloated, try some Ginger tea. If you can't find it in tea bags, buy a piece of ginger, peel it, and boil and steep it for a while in some water. Drink it hot and you can add some peppermint tea. This will decrease the bloating and distention that comes from IBS.
It is definitely painful. Like you said, almost like labor pains!
I hope you get to feeling better soon. Try the tea, and try the "breaking the cycle" diet for a few days. That should help alleviate most of the pain, distention, bloating, gas, and nausea that can occur! Hope that helps! {{hugs}}
