I read in the Prevention magazine that Ginger helped with Arthritis pain. Is this a safe food for IBS sufferers too?

It is mostly insoluble fiber. I know I couldn't eat it. However, I use ginger root a lot to flavor dishes but I remove the pieces before I serve them.

I cook with a lot of ginger, but you can't really eat it per se. It is great for digestion but needs cutting or grating, etc to be edible. By all means eat as much gingery stuff as possible just don't try to take a bite off a gingerroot!

Is it better to buy the Ginger already ground, or buy the fresh and work with that?

I definitely think the fresh gingerroot. It is so versatile. I always have ginger around. A chunk steeped in water will cure nausea and I cook a lot of Asian and use large amounts of grated/chopped in my cooking. I also like grated ginger, sweetener, margarine on cooked carrots.
