Hi.
I am new to the site. I haven't been officially diagnosed with anything yet but have seen my Gastro and have an endoscopy and colonoscopy scheduled for early March. I started with severe burning right under my breastbone. I have been on prilosec for a few months now. That has decreased but I now have constant stomach pains - what I would call spasming. Is this a 'sign' of IBS? Anyone else ever had something similar for over a month? I do have irregular bowels - not constipation though - and gas. I also have trouble sleeping at night b/c I am usually a stomach sleeper and it is painful to lay on my stomach. Even to fold my arms and rest them on my stomach while I watch tv is uncomfortable. Is this 'normal'??? I have self-diagnosed myself with many things - which isn't healthy to do - so I am trying to change my diet to see if I can help alleviate some discomfort before my tests. Can anyone offer any insights??

I can't say if you have IBS or not. It doesn't sound classic. However, most gastro issues are alleviated by the same safe diet so the info here is good for various conditions.

--------------------
IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

Self-diagnosing can be one of the worst things we do to ourselves. I'm glad you've taken the steps to get this problem checked out professionally.

I may be (and probably am) way off-base here, but I had similar symptoms a few years ago. I ended up having my gall bladder removed.

Good luck!
