Hi all,

I haven't received my cds yet, but when I do I will be off the boards, since that is what is recommended. I will miss chatting, but I think it will be best for me, and goes with the course of treatment.

I had one more question before I go, and I would like to get as much feedback as possible, if you all would be so kind.

What do you mean by stable? Does that mean a normal BM (not D or C), and going on a regular basis? I was curious about this, because I don't know if I will ever see that for myself. I am either so C (which I have been most of my life), or flipping to periodic D, which developed after trauma in my life, last year. The Align has helped tremendously with the gas and especially the bloating, but I am still very irregular.

If I stick with the diet to a T, and have mostly SF, I get and remain very C. If I throw in IF, sometimes I go a little D, so I guess I haven't found the right balance. I thought with a diet mostly of SF, it was supposed to allow for a regular BM, but it doesn't for me. It really is very confusing to me.

Anyway, I guess that is more than one question. I will check back one more time, before I get the cds, to see if you great people have any answers.

All my life I have been C (before I knew I had IBS), and when I really needed to go, I would eat about 1/4 cup of Bran Buds in the AM, and would go like clockwork, the next morning. Now, bran is supposed to be a no-no, but it helped me, so that is confusing. Although, that was before I started to swing to D,occasionally. I don't know why I stopped the Bran Buds cereal...I guess I didn't like the taste much.

Well anyway, I always seem to go on and on, and digress from my original question (the writer in me), so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Lynn

Question for you. What CD's are you refering too? The Hypnosis? I just got them in but haven't started yet so I would like to know what you mean by "leaving the boards".

I think stable would mean having a regular daily to every other day BM's (even normal people don't go everyday) with no colonic spasms, bloating, pain, etc. (that's just my opinion) Also, you do need more IF for C. I find if I only eat SF i get severely constipated. But if you are getting some D from the IF, it's probably normal because your body is getting used to it. I definitely "go" when I eat IF, and sometimes, too much can give me a small case of D but it doesn't always last vert long. Try to get used to the IF and your body should regulate itself. HTH. We will miss you, Lynn!

Hi there. I too am extremely constipated. I follow the IBS diet regularly, as well as take my acacia fiber regularly. Still, I am constipated. At first I thought I just needed to get more SF in me, but I truly can not take in any more of the SF-I think I get enough. So, back to our dilemma-constipation. I believe that for all of us with IBS, consumming more SF is the best for our gut. However, I believe our bodies still need IF. I'm going to try and introduce a bit more IF to my diet-but very slowly. Hopefully the balance between the SF and the little bit of IF will help the both of us with our constipation (without sending us into D). Good luck, and keep me posted on your progress, and I will do the same. Remember, try introducing the IF in small amounts at first.

Hi Kappy,

If you read the more recent posts between Marilyn and myself on the IBS hypnosis board, it is recommended by Mike Mahoney, that you steer clear of writing, talking, reading, or thinking about IBS for the course of the treatment and thereafter. You don't want to focus on what you are trying to heal, and have it take up your life and mind 24/7. That makes perfect sense to me. So, when I receive the cds, I will follow the directions Marilyn has given me. I will post occasionally to let others know my progress, but I won't be here often. As Marilyn states, after people do the cds, they don't need the boards as much, so they get on with their life. I hope that makes sense. Even Heather states this in one of her books. She does not dwell on these boards, but only comes occasionally to monitor and run her business. So, go to the hypno board and read the most recent posts. I'll miss you too, Kappy.

Thanks Sue,

Someone who can relate. This is what I don't get. All my life I have been brainwashed by the so-called "experts", to eat more IF, to help relieve the C. Increase my intake of beans, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, legumes, fruits, bran and veggies. Being a vegan, I love that idea. So, I do that and have some success, some of the time. Then I come to these boards and everyone says "no" to IF, stick with SF. So, I go that route and then I get so C, more so than I have ever been. Then I come back to the boards to discuss the extreme C, and I am told to increase the IF again, so then I wonder, that is what the "experts" were saying from the beginning. So, there is where my confusion lies. Most GI docs, even to this day, will tell you to eat more fiber. They just don't tell you what kind, but you know most of them mean IF. So, darn, I get confused. I think I am going to block them all out, and just experiment on my own body. I know for a fact that I can eat bran and be OK, so how does that happen? Only, experiencing occasional D, just recently, that just complicates things even more. Jeez, I wish I could figure it out.

But thanks for the input and understanding.

Lynn

Thanks Syl,

I guess I should of thought to do a search first. Since, I don't get attacks per se, I guess everyone's idea of stable would be different. To me, I guess it would be going on a regular basis with a normal stool, so I guess I answered my own question.

Thanks,
Lynn

To me it means that your life is not affected by IBS symptoms. You can live day to day with minimal or no evidences of having IBS. The frequency of BMs is not an indicator of stability because the 'normal' for everyone varies by a lot.

--------------------
IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!
