Hey everyone, I actually have a question concerning my husband and its kinda a long story so thanks in advance if you make it the whole way!
Sunday we went to my brothers for lunch. My husband ate pizza and salad around 1:00. We left my brothers house around 4:00 and he said that he didnt feel well. (quick background info: he used to get right side pain a lot after eating) He said that his right side was starting to hurt. So we went home he took some gas-x because in the past it sometimes helps a bit. Then all of a sudden his pain moved the upper middle of his abdomen and my large "manly" husband was buckled over in pain. He was moaning out loud, he became white as a ghost and started sweating profusly. So we went to the ER. They did an x-ray and some other test where he swallowed stuff and his insides glowed. It came back saying that he had an infection in his gallbladder (called cholecystitis) and the walls around it were thickened. His bloodwork also said that his white blood cells were really high.
So they admitted him to the hospital, put him on IV antibiotics and said that the next day they would probably remove his gallbladder.
So the next day comes (yesterday morning) and the surgeon does one more test where they took pictures of his stomach and I guess everything thing came out normal, his white blood cells were back to normal. So they discharged him and sent him on his way!
I talked to the surgeon and asked him how come it changed and he said he didnt really know, but it looked normal so they didnt want to do the surgery. Now today my husband said he still doesnt feel right- his whole side stomach area just is uncomfortable. In the ER they gave him pain medication so his pain went away-it never seemed to fully go though.
So to anyone with gallbladder issues- does this sound familiar and like a gallbladder problem? By no means do I want my husband to go through surgery but I feel like if this is going to happen from time to time and you dont need your gallbladder.. shouldnt they take it out?! He has a follow-up appt. in a week. I just feel bad for him and I can relate with the whole doctors not taking it seriously thing. So what do you guys think? Have you ever heard of a gallbladder infection? Thanks for reading all this!!

Stefanie

Yes he could have had an infection.
I would get an ultrasound to find out if he has any gallstones. That way you would know if they are causing the problems. If he doesn't have stones he's lucky.A low fat diet with little to no dairy will help keep it from being inflamed.
I spent months with gall bladder attacks and finally spent a week in the hospital due to a gall stone being stuck. The docs in the er didn't think it was serious enough and gave me narcotics to ease the pain and I stil ended up with one stuck an infection and lost twenty pounds from being unable to eat anything. Not to mention the withdrawls from all the drugs they had me on.
SO....try not to have the gallbladder removed. But definately don't let them leave it for too long.
