Which Alcoholic Drinks/Brands Mix For You?

I had a few questions about choosing wisely on alcohol...knowing beforehand this is something to be done only when feeling good and when following proper IBS protocol.
Specifically I was wondering:

1) What kinds of alcohol are most tolerable for you (Whiskey/Rum/Tequilla/Triple Sec/White or Red Wine/Beer/etc.)

2) What kinds of alcoholic drinks are most tolerable for you?

3) What kinds of alcohol are untolerable/must avoid?

4) What kinds of alcoholic drinks are untolerable/must avoid?

Thanks.

I can only drink alcohol if I am not having an attack and limit myself to a glass of wine no more and make sure that I have food in my stomach first. Hope this helps.

Generally speaking it is the amount of alcohol in a drink that causes an attach because alcohol is a powerful GI stimulant.

If you are going to drink alcohol then restrict it to small amounts of low alcohol beverages such as wine on a full stomach.

Becareful of mixes. Many of them contain HFCS and high fructose fruit juices.

These questions are like a diabetic asking: How much sugar is safe for me to consume before I'll get a stroke?!

Alcohol is one of the worst things to consume if you have IBS. It can provoke severe attacks.

I haven't touched a drop since 1985 and my life has been fine without it.

Why look for trouble?

I can only drink alcohol when i'm not in an episode of IBS.
Lately I've been drinking Rum and coke( I know both are triggers)When i'm stable either once in a while are fine FOR ME.
Anyway, i only have about a capful of rum in a glass full of ice filled with coke. One a day every week MAYBE.Depends on what I have eaten that day or week.I tried two capfuls and couldn't finish due to the cramping.
You should probably drink virgin drinks instead but one drink may not bother you.Just remember you are taking a chance and if you can deal with the consequences then thats up to you.
Have a good holiday.

I enjoy Red Wine on a full stomach, it doesn't hurt my belly, just my head the next day. I don't think that a glass or two hurt! They don't for ME anyway!

One other drink I LOVE is a Mint Julip. I get fresh mint leaves and about half a teaspoon of powdered sugar and crush this together with a muddler or the blunt end of a knife. Then I fill the glass with as much ice as possible and poor about a shot of Bourbon (usually old charter) over the ice. I swirl it around in the glass or mix lightly with my finger, and the bourbon usually melts the ice perfectly to make the perfect Mint Julip. It's easy and refreshing and the mint helps the belly, too. Nothing hard about it!

I like gin and ginger ale. I try to stir out some of the carbonation before I sip it. I find beer gives me too much gas. White wine is also ok on a full stomach.

I disagree about alcohol and the diabetic analogy.
Alcohol can be used responsibly if done so in the right amount and when the stomach is under the right conditions.

Yes...you are taking a chance...but if you don't abuse it and do it often...and if you do it after taking care of yourself and make the right drink selection...you can balance out all needs.

I usually stick to Vodka and Cranbury Juice or Gin and Ginger Ale, myself.
I hear white wine is good.

I wanted to know

1) Do you have any other suggestions?
2) Anything that would be a mixed drink and stronger than those?
If I could have something that would be strong, I'd rather have it because then I would not have to drink as much total alcohol.

I drink vodka and cranberry juice too. When I make it at home I make sure to use the "just cranberry juice" kind. But so far as long as I've eaten something soluble and substantial- if I am at a wedding or something I can usually do there vodka and cranberry juice too. I've tried other mixed drinks and gotten very sick from them. I've noticed that if I have one drink of say a "sex on the beach" I am ok, but if I have two- I feel like I am drunk, sick and hungover all at the same time. I've notcied that I can tolerate Mikes Hard Cranberry pretty well even though it is carbonated. Hey I'm 26 years old and the idea of never ever having a drink for the rest of my life, was pretty sad to me! Therefore I just did some trial and error and discovered vodka and cranberry to be the safest. Theres a really good organic vodka brand called "Rain".
