Just want to thank Heather and all here for the tons of helpful ideas and the safe diet.I had a very good tummy holiday in terms of not having the gas and pain and bloating that have tortured me so.In the last month I have had very few days of this bad feeling, just wondeful good feeling tummy days.I am so thankful to have found out about the diet and the recipes and Heather's books.
They sure lifted me up when my gastro dr. just said here take these pills, goodbye.
I notice I still struggle w/the affects of "tight tummy" and C. when I am too busy or nervous.Hopefully I can work on that issue next.
Thanks evryone.I LOVE this site! Suzy

Hi Suzy! You had a great Christmas. Yippee! Amazing how much we appreciate feeling well; it just makes or breaks our day. And to feel well, we have to follow the diet. I started off on the wrong foot. We went out to celebrate Christmas eve, and I had a Jack. It didn't bother me, so when we got home I had another. BIG mistake. Woke up in the middle of the night, doubled over, and spent the rest of the night on the pot. Took my Donnatal and Equalactin, some peppermint tea, and went back to bed to "sleep it off." Christmas day my tummy was pretty tender, but at least I was able to function. For Christmas dinner I made Steather's incredible "Sweet & Sour Cabbage Soup" and that's all we ate. My hubby, bless his adorable heart, told me it was the best Christmas dinner he ever had. Well, at least I had a happy tummy -- and a hubby who likes to eat light! It was a wonderful Christmas because of it. Who needs turkey and dressing and gravy and mince meat pie and all that crap, eh? Just goes to prove that that stuff just ain't worth it -- including my friend Jack!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Bev

Hi BEVS WHEN you are feeling good regular meal is ok. I just make sure i am full of enough fibre to carry me through. I paid for yesterday with the ham I had but turkey dinner today should be better because I am taking care of myself today. Yesterday I was too busy getting my hubby pancakes ready to eatr properly myself. bUT, EACH TO HIS OWN, as they say.

Hi Bevrs,
So sorry to hear about your tummy problem.By the way, what is Jack?
I am so glad to hear about the cabbage soup.I love cabbage and have been afraid to eat it.You are right about being lucky w/your husb.I hope mine will be more supportive. The last few days have been full of him doing annoying things related to IBS triggers(making nonsafe cookies and soups, asking for me to make stuffing).I guess I've been so tired that I let it get to me.Now I am working on correcting that. I do know it is so hard now to avoid those things that make me sick, espec. when it is a holiday, going out or upsetting time to me.Hope you keep feeling better.

Su, my old friend Jack is Jack Daniels. He's gotten me thru some real tough times in my life; however, this time he's let me down. I think Jack and I are finished forever. I like him, but my tummy does NOT.

Does your hubby understand the pain you go through with your IBS? Certainly he would be more supportive if he did? When he's sick, do you "wait" on him, you know -- serve him soup in bed, give him back rubs, etc.? It's only fair that he do the same, right?

Yes, I am lucky. When I hurt, so does Don. He serves me peppermint tea in bed, gets my meds for me, and when I run out he goes to the pharmacy and buys more. But when he's sick, I do the same for him. It's only fair.

And this morning, he said he was really craving coffee (which I gave up a week ago). I asked him to please go into town and stop by the espresso stand and buy himself a cup -- but DON'T bring any home. And that's what he did. He did not want to tempt me. He's a good man. Think I'll keep him.

Does your hubby like chocolate? Why not make him our infamous ADBs (Anti-Depressant Brownies)? He doesn't have to know they're IBS-safe, and if he likes chocolate, he'll LOVE them -- and you can eat them too.

Here's to a good New Year!

Bev.

Suzy: I'm glad you had a great holiday!!! It's amazing what a lifesytle change can do for your wellbeing!! ocaasioanlly I can "slip" One of the IBS recipes in like the salmon one in the cookbook- but I often make two entrees-one for my husband and kids and one for me (If they want red meat!) So I know how you feel about cooking!!! Try the fennel tea very strong when you are constipated and bloated-really helps me with the uncomfortable feeling! are you taking a soluble fiber supplement? i use benefiber-keeps the bloating and constipation down to a minimum!! good luck! maryh

Hi maryh.I am still smiling about how much better I have been feeling this holiday. It is amazing.I think the feeling so much better is helping me be more careful about triggers. Not as likely to give in to temptation, you know.I usually cook only something I can eat and so far that is working well. It's just me and my husb. since our kids are grown. He is a good sport about what I fix and almost always likes it.It's just been this holiday and those "traditions" of the past.He makes a great tomato bouillion and potato soup and chili. The last few years he has strated making cookies for the holidays(something he was never home to do when the kids were here). It just felt like for a few days all he did was work on or plan these foods.I got fed up w/just hearing about it.Guess I was too stressed.
I do use a fiber supplement,Citrucel daily and often drink the fennel tea.Guess I should do it daily too.Do you have a cheap source for that?I buy mine at a health food store. suzy
