Hello everyone, I wanted to ask if anyone with IBS-D could tell me what they are doing to get rid of their problems? I take immodium every day just in case and am getting worried it can do me only harm and no good. My mum said i could get colon cancer and stuff like that and im scared. Im just really worried about going to work without taking Imodium and then getting diarrhoea as my job is stressfull and I dont really get a chance to run to toilet and also its embarrassing. So i take imodium every day to prevent any trips to toilet. And now im just wishing someone would tell me what they do and eat so they dont get diarrhoea? It would really help, if u know anything that is really safe and good for me to eat. I think im also very anxious and i get this feeling in my stomach and then sometimes i need to go to the toilet. Is that normal as well? What about some medication that might be better to take then imodium? And i definitely need some vitamin supplements as i dont eat a lot of things mainly cos im scared to eat them and i know i am lacking vitamins. Can someone help me and tell me if they are taking any vitamins and what kinds? i just ordered tummy fiber from Heather and am gonna try that so i wish it would help cos i just wish i was normal, and i went to toilet only once a day, that would be great please any comments, any advices anything will really help me. Thank you very much

Welcome to the boards. I had totally out of control D before I found this website. I had extensive medical tests done to assure that I had no serious problems and you need to do the same. This website has a lot of information regarding breaking the cycle of IBS. You need to read that information and then start on the diet. Acacia (tummy fiber) is not going to help much unless you also follow the diet. I have found that for breakfast I eat cream of rice and drink hot herbal tea (absolutely no caffeine) with the tummy fiber dissolved in it. I have a snack midmorning of 4 or 5 organic vanilla wafers or graham sticks with a few strawberries or blueberries. Sometimes I have a glass of rice milk with that. For lunch I have some type of baked or grilled chicken or fish, rice or potatoes and a couple of tablespoons of grean beans. Afternoon snack is usually a repeat of the morning although I can have peaches to mix it up a bit. Supper/dinner is similar to lunch but since I am home it can be freshly prepared instead of nuked in the micowave. My special summertime dessert is sorbet (check the label to make sure it has no milk products). I like the peach and the strawberry. After dinner I have another cup of herbal tea with the tummy fiber (1 tsp.) dissolved in it. There is no scientific evidence that IBS leads to colon cancer. My GI doc told me to take as much imodium as I needed but I have that down to maybe 1 every two weeks except in times of stress. I understand what you are going through. I have been there, done that and it was embarassing and frightening. Read everything on this website and order "Eating for IBS" or "IBS, The First Year" and read them cover to cover. Remember that you may find that you can tolerate some things that the books say are not recommended AND you may not be able to tolerate things are on the "safe" list but you have to start somewhere. Good luck to you and keep us posted on your progress.

Whenever I have a few days of uncontrollable d I eat the break the cycle diet and I take Slippery Elm tablets. These are supposed to soothe your colon.Usually two days is all it takes.I take Imodium every once in a while too sometimes just if my tummy is rumbling.I snack on white bread and pretzels as much as possible.I also eat saltine crackers and they always help me.I drink water and sometimes apple juice.Lots of plain potatos and pasta, rice too.
I have been doing the hypno tapes and they have made a huge difference in my anxiety.I'm only 25% done but I can see a diff.

Hi thank you for your help, I have had loads of tests done and doctors said its IBS. I take imodium every single day cos i just feel better if i take it, i feel safe cos i know i will be ok at work. But i wish i could go without imodium. I dont eat dairy, eggs, wheat, red meat, garlic, i dont eat so many things. And yet i still dont feel ok. I think it might be also cos im anxious about it and scared if i dont take imodium i will have diarrhoea. I drink peppermint tea every day, i take anti depressants now called Amitryptiline, only 10mg tho, so thats not a lot, doctor gave it to me to try cos some people take it for IBS, I would really love to hear from people from the UK as I need to know what they eat as well. All those things u people eat are from US and i cant get them here thank you
