Okay, the EFI diet says to eat fruit only after eating an SF source, right?

But I've also heard from multiple sources that you shouldn't eat fruit with any other foods....only alone. This is because the fruit with cause the SF to ferment and cause GI distress.

Any thoughts? I don't know what to think.

Does anyone ever eat fruit (even IF fruit) alone?

I mean, sometimes when I wake up in the am I just want a nectorine. Period. Or some strawberries as a snack

The fruit does not stay in your stomach long enough to ferment. Besides the acidity of the stomach is too high to allow fermentation to takes place. It is just another crazy notion that is floating around

PS - It is natural for many things including fruit fiber and sugars to be fermented in the colon.

Unclear on what you are saying. And it's not "new age" myths. I've been reading this for a while

SF will ferment in the colon with or without fruit. SF will not ferment in the stomach under any conditions.

I eat fruit alone, with skin. To me it makes no difference, when I eat it.

Jordy never asked if fruit ferments in the stomach - she said she's read that it causes GI distress. The "crazy notion" that's floating around (and has been for decades) is not that it ferments in your stomach, but if you eat fruit following anything else , it will speed digestion up too much and you will have more gas and discomfort than you would from SF (or anything else) alone. Because fruit is digested faster than anything else.

Personally, I think that if your digestive system is strong and your body is producing sufficient digestive enzymes, you should have no problem combining different types of foods. But our systems are impaired, and it's possible we are not producing sufficient digestive enzymes (since these decrease with age anyway).

There may not be a huge body of evidence to back up the food combining theories, but our bodies are so different that what works for one of us will not necessarily work for everyone else. I do not believe there is one single dietary prescription for a whole population of people who vary in age, ethnicity, body chemistry, etc.

I believe she said "this is because the fruit with cause the SF to ferment and cause GI distress". Fruit does not cause anything particularly SF to ferment which in turn cause GI distress whether it be in the stomach, small intestine or colon. While some sugars in fruit maybe digested fast other sugars and the fiber in fruit are not digested (actually fermented) until they reach the colon. The GI distress can be caused by the sugars in the fruit such as fructose being fermented in the colon.

As for the crazy notion about food combining you might read this message which gives a link to an explanation of why the theory of food combining is total bunk.

Digestive enzymes may decrease slightly with age but in a healthy individual the decrease is quite small. Except for medical disorders such as lactose intolerance our bodies are quite capable of producing all of the digestive enzymes they need for a life time.

Well, I meant colon then. The point was, eating fruit with carbs causes more fermentation.

Thank you for listening to what I actually wrote and offering your response! So, you don't think fruit with SF is worse for gas?
