I'm 58 and started permenopause in my 40s, then full blown menopause late 40s. If you have not had a hysterectomy - including removal of ovaries, I would stay away from conventional HRT - too many friends who have developed breast cancer as a result. Before I knew all that, at my dr's advice, went on the patch - as best I can remember, it did help a "little". I would consider natural alternatives and even seek the advice of someone knowledgeable like a naturopathic clinician or perhaps, the new natural-compounded hormones???? My opinion - unfortunately, it does not make the IBS any easier - any time your body's chemicals/hormones are out of balance, it affects everything. A lot of friends have found taking a mild anti-depressant/anxiety med. helped + essential oils and a natural herbal preparation. Sorry, I'm not more encouraging, but I think every change in our lives/bodies affects the IBS - it's part of the mind/gut connection. On a positive note, it may take a while, but just research and you will find something that will be beneficial just for you.
