HELP. I have been having so much trouble with obtaining Levsinex which I have used for years for IBS and the manufacturer told me they are no longer making it, Levsin, or Levbid. Now the generic is also being taken off. Has anyone else heard of this or had a problem? Have ideas/suggestions? Know why it is no longer being used? Thanks, this is not good for me! I was just given Hyoscyamine a few days ago. I have not heard anything about it being taken off the market. I'm new to IBS, just diagnosed 2 months ago. The pharmacy never said anything to me, I'm not sure the med is working anyway. It's helped, but I still don't feel the greatest.

I was taking Hyoscyamine as a generic of Levsin. I went to get a refill today and the pharmacy told me that Hyoscyamine has been discontinued. However, they gave me something called Symax in its place, which they said is replacing Hyoscyamine, and when I asked "is this just another generic replacement for Levsin?" they ('they' being the pharmacy tech) said yes.

By the way, the full name of the new medicine is Symax-SL and the manufacturer is Capellon (which is not the same manufacturer that made the Hyoscyamine I took previously). I haven't tried the Symax yet (at the rate I'm going I will need to in a couple days), but I'd suggest you look into that / ask your doctor or pharmacy about it.

I take the hyoscyamine .375 so I called the pharmacist on this. She said as far as she knows the ONLY one being taken off the market is the .125 dosage, however you can still get that dosage in the sublingual form.

I was just diagnosed 3 1/2 weeks ago . . . my GI Dr Rx'd it. The pharmacy did not mention anything. I will check when I go for a refill!

I had to use it a lot the first week. Since starting the IBS diet, I've only had to use it four times. Not to say I haven't had BM issues, but the cramping is significantly improved.

BTW, my Dr. Rx'd the sublingual form, FWIW.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

I have been taking the .125 dosage, so perhaps that's the only one that has been changed. I was actually taking the sublingual form of Hyoscyamine, so at least as far as my pharmacy thinks that too is no longer being made in the .125 dosage.

Here is the link to an explanation of the reason for these drugs to no-longer be available.
