This is the best I can get here in Australia:

It is specifically designed for people with IBS.

Scroll down for the product called "IBS SUPPORT".

Some studies show that Lactobacillus plantarum 299v reduces abdominal pain and flatulence while other studies have found no effect.

The most effect probiotics for IBS are Align (Bifidobacterium infantis) and VSL#3. Here are links to a previous message and to a review article on probiotics and IBS. Align is not available in Canada and it is quite expensive so I take Life Start and I have had reasonable success with it. However, it contains a small amount of milk. You could contact their Australian represent whose name and contact details are give on this web page to find out where you can purchase it.

Good luck

I took a high dose probiotic for about 4 months then switched to Align for the last 2 months. I have had no change in my bloating and pain except that I felt better as summer was coming on. I think technically probiotics are beneficial because we need to increase good bacteria and decrease the bad, but I don't think it will effectively change how we feel. I don't think IBS symptoms are caused by a lack of bacteria but probiotics are something that is good for health in general.

IBS-A for 20 years with terrible bloating and gas. On the diet since April 2004. Remember this from Heather's information pages:
"You absolutely must eat insoluble fiber foods, and as much as safely possible, but within the IBS dietary guidelines. Treat insoluble fiber foods with suitable caution, and you'll be able to enjoy a wide variety of them, in very healthy quantities, without problem." Please eat IF foods!

I have taken IBS Support for 2 and a half months. I was initially very positive but have had too many bad days out of the blue lately to think it is still working well. It is hard for me to know if it was effective for a while or if me being stricter on the diet and taking more Acacia was the main thing helping me improve. I managed to get Lifestart here in Oz but it had a very short user date (1 month) and has to be kept cold. I am travelling in July and can't keep it cold while I am away so I am going to start Align (which I managed to get over the net - it doesn't have to be kept cold) this weekend.
