Does anyone have an opinion about Unifiber (www.unifiber.com)? It seems relatively new. All natural ingredients...the fiber is cellulose. I currently use Citrucel which has methylcellulose, but, they discontinued the plain (smoothie mix) and I don't want added sugars, etc. I have had great luck with the methylcellulose as it does not cause gas.

Unifiber contains 80% cellulose which is an IF and 20% maltodextrin which is easily digestible and has the same caloric value as white sugar.

Methylcellulose is a soluble fiber.

Unifiber is probably not a good choice for IBSers.

Good luck

oh no! I alternate it with Acacia, it was my favorite "flavor". Do you know why they discontinued it?

This is all so upsetting to me....I keep looking for something similar to the citrucel that would be plain but, can't find. I was hoping cellulose was similar. The company gave me no reason why they discontinued it, but they were eager to tell me about their new "chews" which contain more sugar, chocolate, etc....things we don't need.

I know, it's so upsetting! Don't they understand that perhaps people don't need all that crap they put into the flavored kinds in the diet? . They've done this before back when the the fiber smoothie was called "clear mix", they took it off for a few months but then came back with the fiber smoothie. Doesn't look like they're coming up with anything new this time though...

Have you tried Benefiber powder? It contains only wheat dextrin as SF. However, stay away from the chewables and caplets. They contain other unfriendly ingredients.

Thanks for the suggestion, however I don't do wheat/gluten and even though they claim it's gluten free, I'm not sure if it's made of wheat dextrin...

Corn, wheat, potatoes and other crops are used as a source of starch to produce dextrin for SFS and other applications in the food industry.

Snorkie made a posting indicating that CVS has a SFS made from corn dextrin. You might give it a try.

Good luck

Went over to CVS and yes, their brand of Benefiber contains corn dextrin. Also saw they have Benefiber Sugar Free which contains guar gum. I thought they discontinued that? Not sure if they brought it back or if this is old stuff on the shelf. The shelf date was 6/09.

If a food product has cellulose as an ingredient, then does it disqualify it from being safe much like it would were it to contain diary?
