I hope this is the right place to ask this question. Is burping and belching a symptom of IBS? I have read about gas in the information you give, but nothing regarding burping/belching. Or is that part of the gas equation? Occasionally, I will have an attack of b/b that is quite annoying and lasts several day which is longer than I would like. I will also wake up in the middle of the night because of the need to get rid of the excess gas, and will be unable to get back to sleep. The discomfort and lack of sleep plays havoc on my disposition. I had an attack several months ago and endured a colonoscopy and an endoscopy which didn't turn up any major problems. Nexium was also prescribed which I have been taking for a number of months, but I can't say that it has done much good. I can't seem to get any answers from the GI Doctor about why I have to burp and belch. I get some relief with the peppermint caps, but not enough. Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

My burping problem ended up being reflux. Nexium helped and peppermint made things worse. Good luck to you!

I burp and belch a lot!! No matter what I eat, what I don't eat, etc. I try to let it out (in a mannerly fashion) b/c I don't want it to 'build up' in my belly!

I had that for about a month once a few years ago, way before I was diagnosed with IBS. For me, it was because I had been eating broccoli and cauliflower at least twice a day, I guess something about those sulfury veggies doesn't agree with me when I eat them that often for several months. You might want to see if you've made any changes like that in your diet. Hope this helps!
