Saw G.I. specialist last Thursday and he has me now on Klean Prep which is taken in large doses (4 litres in a day)
for a colon prep before a colonscopy. In my case I am to take only onr eight ounce glass a day.

It according to him as same basic ingredient as Mirilax which we can't get in Canada. I have not seen any major improvement of my condition but it is only a few days. I still take Metamucil also daily. Previously I was taking lactulose but was a major proboem with continuous bloating. At least that part is improved.

Anyone ever done something similar?

Well no replies but an update anyway.

I had to reduce to hlf dose or 4 oz. as a full 8 8 oz was just too much. Even with the 4 oz and the Metamucil I still get the bloating problem that I had when taking lactulose. However at least with the Klean Prep I am not conmstipated.

So next solution is to find a satisfactory method of easing bloating. I have feennel tea (Heather's) which helps but not fully.

Metamucil has always contributed to my bloating. Have you tried other forms of fiber?

here is some information I found on the net for you it looks like klean-prep and miralax are made of the same ingredients like your doctor said but some of the warnings for taking miralax conflict with your diagnosis if you have IBS and it also says that it should produce a BM within 1-3 days of taking the medication

Klean-Prep® is a balanced mixture of polyethylene glycol 3350 (PEG 3350) and electrolytes which, added to water, produces a clear, colourless, iso-osmotic solution. It acts as a bowel cleansing agent and allows a total cleansing in 4 to 6 hours.

What is the most important information I should know about polyethylene glycol 3350?

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to polyethylene glycol, or if you have a bowel obstruction or intestinal blockage. If you have any these conditions, you could have dangerous or life-threatening side effects from polyethylene glycol 3350.

Polyethylene glycol 3350 should produce a bowel movement within 1 to 3 days of using the medication. Polyethylene glycol 3350 normally causes loose or even watery stools.

Do not use polyethylene glycol 3350 more than once per day. Call your doctor if you are still constipated or irregular after using this medication for 7 days in a row.

What is polyethylene glycol 3350?
Polyethylene glycol 3350 is a laxative solution that increases the amount of water in the intestinal tract to stimulate bowel movements.

Polyethylene glycol 3350 is used as a laxative to treat occasional constipation or irregular bowel movements.

Polyethylene glycol 3350 may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

Before taking polyethylene glycol 3350, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have:

nausea, vomiting, or severe stomach pain;
ulcerative colitis;
irritable bowel syndrome;
kidney disease; or
if you have had a sudden change in bowel habits that has lasted 2 weeks or longer.
If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to use polyethylene glycol 3350, or you may need dosage adjustments or special tests during treatment.

Thanks both for information. The ingredients I knew as it was explained by G.I.specialist. Also used it in larger dose for a colomscopy test.

Re the fibre also have tried Benefibre. It is not the same as in the States as it used inulin which according to specialist is really little different acting than psyllium in Metamucil. He also stted that hedid not understand why they changed the fibre except that it you take less for the same fibre comtent. I am redducing the Klean Prep for now and am to phone specialist on Thursday to see how it is going.
