No problem, keep asking . That is weird that you also like pineapple after dinner, I guess we have the same IBS and same tastes .

I don't peel any of those fruits because I feel like I need the extra IF from the peel. I tried it in the past and when it comes to bloating it didn't really make a difference. I still get a bit bloated every day but it's not as bad as it used to be. I also have days when I get really bloated but usually it's when I ate a large dinner or had a lot of snacks after dinner. It doesn't really matter what I eat at night, if there's a lot of it I get bloated the next day. One time I got bloated because I had too many rice cakes .

I take it one step at a time, right now I'm focusing on being able to have a BM and not having painful attacks. I'm doing well with the pain and OK with BM. Once that's out of the way I will focus more on bloating .

Why are you afraid of oranges? Do they actually make you feel bad or is it because they're not supposed to be good for IBS? One thing that really helped me was not to be afraid of certain foods just because other people cannot tolerate them. In the beginning every time I read someone had a reaction to something I cut it out of my diet. Pretty soon I was angry and deprived and felt like there was nothing tasty (that I liked) for me to eat. So I decided that I will test everything myself and was able to include more things back .

The reason is the latter...because others have reported major problems with them, so I have become too fearful to eat them. I figure, if so many people have a problem with them, and since I don't know what is causing me to remain so symptomatic, I must avoid them.

Maybe I need a break from the boards. You are able to eat these fruits (even with peels) on an empty tummy. So, maybe I would be able to too, if I allowed myself the ability to overcome my fear and try and erase all the posts that I have seen. Sometimes I think I would be better off not ever have found the boards. Except for all the great people I have met! Maybe the EFI diet is just not ever gonna work for me? Yet I am too afraid (and I've read to much) not to. I don't even think I could not follow it.

PS. I have become addicted to decaf coffee....have a cup at work once a day. I don't think it really does anything to me.

What do you attribute this to?

I think it's the lack of wheat/gluten because I do feel less bloated since on the diet.

Just trying to stick to the diet as much as I can, not eating too much chocolate in one sitting, making sure I get my SF/IF with my meals. If I feel like I'm getting C first I try to add more foods that usually work (sweet potatoes, for example) and if I'm still C the following day I take some milk of magnesia just to get things moving. However, I'm not trying to rely on laxatives so I'm trying to stick to the MOM and only when I have to. I learned my lesson a week ago when I had some senna tea - my intestines were on fire, I think because I'm not used to it anymore it affected me more.
Also I'm trying to convince my mind that it takes time, and that I will not feel better immediately. Everyone who states here that they're stable also said that it took a while for them, so that's what I'm telling my tummy, too .

Hey girls,

I was just reading through your thread. I'm really interested in this GF talk. I've been doing low-wheat, but I think I might be ready for GF. Anyway, the reason I'm posting is that I noticed, Zara, that you used a senna tea to get things moving again. I know that senna can be a really rough experience, so I just wanted to jump in and say that I used a Fleet glycerin suppository last week. I'd had a few really busy, stressful days and my body just...wouldn't. Speaking plainly, it's not fun to stick something up your bum, but you might have less pain than you have with the senna.

Hope everyone is well...
Jen

Hi Jen,

Thanks for the advice . Unfortunately suppositories only work sometimes for me, sometimes they're great and sometimes...well, not so great. That's why I used the senna, thinking I'll really get things moving . But all that pain was not worth it, plus it took me another 2-3 days to recover from that. Since then I've used milk of magnesia (about once per week) and it worked pretty well, no cramps.

If you're already avoiding wheat you should give GF a try. I'm still debating whether it's gluten or wheat for me. What I'm planning to do is once I'm stable I'll try to safely add things with gluten but no wheat and see if I have a reaction.

Take care !

The night I used the suppository my body finally moved the 4 days of impacted stool (no TMI warning necessary on this site, right? ) and then the next day I had a normal BM. I thought it was a painful-ish experience --only the second time I've ever used one-- but nothing like I've heard senna can be. Some burning and then a little cramping and INSANE (I'm talking HUGE) bloating as everything moved through. Anyway, I want these options to be last-resort only. Maybe I'll give Milk of Magnesia a try.

Be well!
Jen
