Is there anyone else here who has or knows someone with Gilbert's syndrome (which is a benign condition that causes elevated bilirubin levels). I'm just curious because doctors say that there are no symptoms and it is not harmful(just causes jaundice) but there are people who think there is a connection between this and stomach problems, caused by the gallbladder...any thoughts?

Isn't jaundice bad for you? I always thought it was a sign your liver wasn't working correctly.

I don't know anything about the disorder. There is a nice description of it on the Mayo Clinic web site. It appears to be a Begin genetic disorder that results in a decrease in the supply of an enzyme in the liver that helps breakdown bilirubin. This results in an small amount of special kind of bilirubin remains in the blood after it is passes through the liver resulting in a mild jaundice.

Apparently some experts believe that Gilbert's syndrome is simply a normal variation in the range of bilirubin levels.

Under signs and symptoms it says "Some people with Gilbert's experience episodes of fatigue, weakness and abdominal pain. However, it's not known if Gilbert's actually causes such symptoms, or if they're related to stress or other conditions."

I would guess that at the moment there may not be an answer to your question

It can be a sign that your liver isn't working properly but I had liver function tests done, and an ultra sound and there was nothing wrong... the jaundice is only mild,it is mostly just makes the whites of my eyes yellowish
