I have GERD which is usually under good control as I take Zegerid. I'm also actively losing weight which should help the GERD. However, if I eat something that doesn't agree with me (like experimenting with strawberrries yesterday), after the stomach discomfort from IBS, I get reflux symptoms and they persist on and off the rest of the day, desptite the fact that I'm on a strong reflux med that I take twice a day. Then I'm popping TUMS on and off the rest of the day. Does anyone else have GERD and have it flare up with IBS despite being on meds?

Yes, absolutely. I take Nexium twice daily but still have symptoms even on strict IBS diet. I read somewhere that reflux meds can have a negative effect on IBS but can't remember where I saw it or what the reason was. But I have gone to the emergency room twice over the last ten years with symptoms identical to heart attack and it turned out to be GERD so I think for now I'll stay on the meds till something better comes along. Good luck.

Same with me. When the ibs flares so does the GERD despite the acid reflux med. Then I feel like a blob of pain from my boobs to my botton and all places inbetween and around. Going through an episode now. Not very pleasant. I may need to ask for rx to be switched. I take protonex now. Prior to that I think it was prevacid. My GI said after a few years on one, you may have to change to another.

That is exactly how I feel too. I sometimes wonder if I'll need a repeat endoscopy because the reflux is not under control 100% of the time.
