What pain killers work for you?

I am still recovering from knee surgery that I had 2 months ago. My doctor says I will be able to exercise more and feel better if I can take painkillers that keep the swelling down. I took Ibeprophen before but it gave me terrible pains in my gut. I couldn't sit or have a BM from such sharp pains. Can anyone recommend what anti-inflammatory meds I can take without having my IBS flaring up? And how often can I take them?

Thanks so much!
Tatyana.

Good luck finding something to work for you. I've had 4 major surgeries and anti-inflammatories and I just don't get along. I can take Tylonel or Morphine for the pain (Morpine just post-opfor a few days) but other than that I either have to live with the pain or the consequences! Everything else reeks havoc on my tum!

Tatyana, I am one of those who didn't respond. Luckily for me, I can get away with ibuprofen which you said you can't tolerate. Since that's the only one I take I can't be of much help. I hope you find something, I understand the you must be in a lot of pain being post-surgery .

I took 2 aleve and am already feeling pains in my lower tummy. I don't know if it's worth taking if it effects my IBS.

Good luck with that, I have had 5 surgeries in the last 8 months, 2 being intense painful mastectomies. I stopped taking the vicodin I was on within 48 hours of being released because I didn't go to the bathroom for like a week afterwards. Valium helped a little and didnt have that much of an effect on me going to the bathroom. BUt it's not really a pain killer, it's more of a muscle relaxant. I tried taking them only at night to get through the pain and that worked a little. GOOD LUCK!
